tommy morrison had some drug problems and had a venereal disease... but how high up the hill could he have gone leaving aside his discipline problems and the aforementioned
Ergh regardless of his issues his level was pretty well established and was heavyweight champion...but he was chinny, defensively poor and never beat any of the top crop. He's kind of like AJ but I prefer Tommy's combinations...but that's what you'd expect for a 6'2" heavyweight.
Morrison was not an all-time great heavyweight, but he was a very good to excellent one. I think with more discipline in and out of the ring he could have done better but he was "defensively poor and chinny." He was very careful and well prepared against (old) Foreman and won fairly impressively.
I think the heavyweight division in any era would be improved with the addition of Tommy Morrison. Especially against heavyweights close to his size, I'd love to see a Morrison-Povetkin match for one EDIT: not to say he's an ATG heavyweight or anything close to it , but a strong, aggressive glass cannon is always a fun addition
Yea I know. Tommy would have only had a punchers chance, and against Fury who would keep him at distance with his jab wouldn't give Tommy that chance to catch him with the big left hook.
Agree he had a good game plan for Foreman, I just think his lifestyle outside of the ring aged him prematurely.
If he was more disciplined outside of the ring he would've had a better career. How much better is very debatable. He likely avoids at least one of his catastrophic losses (Bentt) and maybe has a few more quality wins. But I don't see Tommy besting LL. Maybe 10-20% of a chance vs. LL if he lands that left hook as Lennox only had mediocre punch resistance... as did TM. Re punch power, engine, punch resistance he was similar to Shavers. Morrison vs. post Douglas or post prison Tyson likely would've been a blast... for however not too long it lasted.
