He's a contender at best in any normal world however with many belts and shady orgs, he could possibly pick up a belt if he landed a big shot. I think people forget just how much the clouds alligned for him to be able to become belrholder/champion back in the day. It took Foreman's miracle win to enable him to get the title. Without completely unforseen circumstances, he's never really seriously close to becoming the champ. His win over Ruddock would have been a loss if not for the incompetent ref. Ron Lipton or whatever the **** his name was.
yep poor effort. Hit him from behind that many times as well. Bear hugged him etc. So much glass in his jaw he ought to be called a chandelier.
He had it all, he had the world at his feet. Good looking strong rugged guy, coulda changed trainers if he continued his career
FYI. Foreman's 'miracle win' came "after" Morrison beat him. And I have no idea how his win over Ruddock would've been a loss. Tommy Morrison was a fine heavyweight. And he was plenty "big" in the 90s. At his peak, he was one of the most recognizable athletes from any sport in the world. Morrison made a major motion picture Rocky V. He won the WBO heavyweight title against Foreman the fight before George became "world" champion, himself. He beat name guys (Ruddock), former champs (Pinklon Thomas), and assorted contenders (Carl Williams) He wasn't as good as Lennox Lewis or Ray Mercer, but nobody from that era (and maybe this one) was as good as Lennox Lewis. Morrison was scheduled to fight Mike Tyson in 1996 when Tommy tested positive for HIV before a February tuneup. If Tyson had faced Morrison instead of Seldon or Holyfield in 1996, that would've been a helluva shootout. If Morrison beaten Tyson that year (which is asking a lot) who knows how massive his fame would've been. Morrison had just turned 27 years old when he tested positive that year and he'd already had 49 pro fights. If he didn't get HIV and instead fought for another decade, he could've been picking up belts from the likes of John Ruiz and Chris Byrd. He still managed to cram a lot into a relatively short period of time.
I think he was an excellent heavyweight in nearly all aspects except his chin and gas tank. I disagree that his defence sucked, it was above average. But if he got tagged by a big puncher he would have problems, as proved often the case.
George Foreman had 81 fights and lost four decisions. It was a big deal. And George regained the world title in his next fight. Not before Morrison beat him, after. "Ancient" or not.
If Ruddock was going to stop him, he would've stopped Morrison in the first. Not after Morrison got up and started knocking Razor around.
How's Michael Bentt going? What does that mean? If Razor Ruddock was going to beat Morrison, he would've done it in the first when he had him down. Bentt beating Morrison didn't help Ruddock. The beating Morrison put on him sent Ruddock into retirement for years.
When you have a very poor defence and a poor chin, you will find you reach your ceiling pretty quickly when you enter the business end of the division. That is what happened to Tommy.
WTF are you talking about? Any **** with a brain knows that Ruddock-Morrison fight was a terrible stoppage and there was every likely hood that Ruddock could have won the fight. Morrison was not a great heavyweight. Let it be doofus.
I got the timeline wrong. I accept that, I don't always go by google and my memory might not be as good as it was but Morrison was not a great heavyweight.
