January. It's a mistake competitively, imo, but evidently there's so much money involved that it's also most likely the prudent financial decision. That's why the Saudis are messing everything up. They aren't just "in the mix", they apparently are overpaying so much that people simply will not fight rather than risk the $$$.

PBC has caused the same inactivity issues at times by overpaying, but not like this. The Saudis have taken it to a new level.

Why not just rematch Liakhovich for a tuneup? He is still damn near prime after all.

So, Wilder will be inactive for 15 months and he is ok with that ?

Yeah, but he could fought some 50th guy in september and stay active at least. he will be 38 soon.

Man I was in my petty ass bag this morning.

But just don't go putting words in my mouth, though.

they stared very long time and neither wanted to look away first. Then Joshua seemed legimately upsed (or very well played psycholical warfare) and said that "what is your problem". Helenius seemed very suprised but said that he is here to fight him. Joshua then said that they will fight here on the stage or at the ring. Thats about it. Something else was said also but I did not catch what was it.

    Lol

Helenius defo got under his skin there.

AJ was rattled a bit with his "wtf you looking at" routine.

This made me laugh for some reason. Sugar Robert Helenius is usually not the type of guy who goes under people's skins.

Joshua already mentally unstable at the weight in, Helenius relaxed, not a good sign.

Joshua's messed up mind problems linger on.

LOL. You’re the one who said the matchup is ‘fine.’ That’s a direct quote.

And you’re the one putting words in peoples’ mouths, saying (with quotation marks around it) that I said “Wilder fought an only slightly post-prime version of Liakhovich,” which, of course, I never said.

I said he wasn’t “shot to smithereens,’ which was your phrasing, and backed it up by citing the performance against Ruiz. Not prime, not slightly post-prime, just not shot to smithereens. If you’re shot to smithereens, you’re toast — you don’t summon an exceptional effort to turn back the clock for one last hoorah because … if you’re shot to smithereens you can’t … you’re completely shot and thus done.

But go on pumping up this matchup as if Helenius is “only slightly post-prime” despite the fact that they had to scrape him off the mat after getting iced in less than a round in his last real fight (not the sparring session in the Pit of Misery castle, lol).

Because, after all, Helenius is a “fine” choice as a replacement opponent for AJ, lol.

Enjoy a “fine” evening of heavyweight boxing!

Fine for five days notice, which it is, idiot.

"Pumping up"? Saying something isn't ideal but fine for five days notice and not jumping on the shrieking "this is a farce/sham/worst mismatch ever/unconsciounable and unsanctionable" bandwagon equates to "pumping up", in your view? That really tracks, in your brain? Only extremes exist, no middle ground? Cool, good job proving over and over how dumb you are and what a lack of nuance your thinking has. :nusenuse:

Yeah you're right, usually people who are shot to smithereens don't summon an exceptional effort to turn back the clock for one last hurrah. Usually. Which is why when Liakhovich did exactly that, it was such a remarkable and noteworthy thing. It is exactly what happened, defying logic and normalcy, which is what makes it special and unique.

All of your chirping at me about this has been predicated on the assumption that I am "defending" the fight (I'm not; it's a poor scenario salvaging what was already a mediocre main event for the card), which in your eyes apparently makes me a Joshua fan (I'm not, for the umpteenth time I'm rooting for Helenius, hard). You have been spectacularly wrong in both your assumptions about my motivations and about your assessment of the fight itself. It sucks, but Joshua vs. Washington would have sucked just as bad, and Joshua vs. Rahman Jr. or McKean would have sucked worse (way worse, in fact - and any other dark horse candidates that may have thrown their hat in the ring, even if they were younger/sturdier/faster than Helenius or better stylistic match-ups, wouldn't have had the advantage of having had a full training camp and then gone a few easy rounds just a week before, nor would most of them have the same slim puncher's chance he does). Joshua vs. Hrgovic or Ruiz II, again, are big fights and in no universe were getting cobbled together on five days notice. The replacement was always going to be moderately crappy. You need to manage your expectations when a fighter fails a drug test just a week out. WITHIN THOSE MANAGED EXPECTATIONS, the fight's fine. Outside that context, not fine. In it, fine. Is anything penetrating your little pea brain yet?
