I remember Golovkin stopped Rosado while having high fever but I can't think of other notable examples.
Is there any way to verify it? I'm sure a lot of fighters use it as good excuse for subpar performance.
Not a win, but Vito Antuofermo drew with Marvin Hagler while suffering from Bronchitis. This was well-documented at the time.
Golovkin either has camp problems or he has a weak immune system. He was unwell against Ouma and Derevyanchenko too, apparently. The Ouma fight I believe because he looked rough around the edges but sometimes I wonder if Hearn wasn't feeding us porkies re the SD fight.
I tend to take claims of illness or injuries with a grain of salt. I’m sure they are true sometimes, but you hear it so often, it can be hard to take them seriously.
Buster Douglas contracted the flu the day before the Tyson fight. Also lost his mother a few weeks before. But, of course, Mike Tyson apparently lost his virginity in Tokyo so how could we expect him to be able to fight? Plus he was way past prime at 23 or whatever. Larry Holmes had the flu when he beat Mike Weaver in one of the best heavyweight title fights ever.
