LOL at the one or two blind ESBers who had Valdez winning this fight or scoring it a draw. Navarrete clearly won this fight. He actually looked bored and disappointed that Valdez didn't have more to offer. He looked like he set his cruise control at 35mph, and Valdez had his at 100+mph. Valdez has heart but he was totally outgunned in this fight. Navarrete on the other hand is a boxing anomaly. He has a God given gift of some excellent lungs and good power. However, his balance, foot work, and punching angles make Antonio Margarito look like Sugar Ray Leonard. Although Margarito was slow and a little awkward, his balance and footwork were never as bad as Navarrete. Navarrate looks like a new born deer that somehow managed to get on a frozen lake and is attempting to find his footing. This is where I believe his corner-men are going to hurt him. They are probably good enough at the local level but Navarrete needs a world class trainer to get him to where he can do better. Maybe not change him completely but he has to shore up all those mistakes that he makes. Navarrete is going to be hard to beat but a fighter with his size that has good handspeed and footspeed will probably outbox him.
He kinda reminds me of a poor man off balanced Morales. But that work rate and power is there. Navarette is a real talent in my opinion. Unconventional style but it works for him. He's my favorite fighter at 130. Margarito was a plodding slow mo this guy at least throws a bunch of punches at angles and is unpredictable.
Do you enjoy looking for excuses to give rounds to the A side? Any closer than 9-3 is ridiculous. I had it 10-2.
Sometimes this controlled chaos and awkwardness is the kind of thing that topples excellent fighters. Who would have thought a guy like Mayorga would beat Vernon Forrest, or Maidana being one of Floyd’s toughest bouts.
