Jack Dempsey has another one of his famous blackout victories in what will certainly be a savage contest. Foreman falls in 5.

Foreman knocks him out early. Jack found himself in trouble vs crude flabby Firpo who doesn’t even compare to foreman. Jack’s low guard and vulnerability to right hands would leave him right in front of George’s heavy artillery, and good head movement never bothered George throughout his career. Foreman also a lot bigger stronger and more powerful in this matchup

This is a comically bad matchup. The guy who spent his championship ducking a middleweight and his top contender Wills, who was wobbled by Carpentier, outboxed by Bill Brennan, and dropped three times by the crude Firpo wouldnt go within a mile of a fight with the 6’3” 220 pound Foreman who was arguably the strongest HW ever, durable, and a destructive puncher. The 190 pound (soaking wet) Dempsey wouldnt be in there against hand picked opposition and he wouldnt make it out of the first round.

I agree that Jack Dempsey could also play the Matador. I do not classify him as a Pure Swarmer. He had other attributes. This is a very interesting match up and I honestly do not know which fighter to pick in a twelve round fight under modern rules. Franky. I do not understand how anyone who has done an in depth study of Jack Dempsey and George Foreman can be sure that George Foreman would beat him. There are more variables at play here than there are in many Fantasy match ups. This might need a best of seven to decide it, with (stealing a page from my late Grandfather) each fighter reconstituted to his prime after each fight, but with full knowledge of each others entire careers, including earlier fantasy fights in this series. A lot of adjusting could take place here from fight to fight.

He was only dropped once by Firpo and did most of his best work as a fighter before becoming the champion (which we have no film of), he was not outboxed by Bill Brennen. Dempsey was just as destructive a puncher as Foreman.

First of all, Firpo wasn't flabby, not every fighter has/is meant to have washboard abs and he was a very game, very dangerous fighter that would've been a contender in any era.
Dempsey kept his chin well-protected so you couldn't hit it. He had great reflexes and was able to dodge punches effectively. Dempsey was only vulnerable to right hands with more surgical punchers like Tunney and Carpentier, Foreman wouldn't have the skill and precision to hit him with impunity like those guys did. Dempsey was only an inch or two shorter than Foreman so closing the gap on him wouldn't be as difficult as it was for Frazier. Dempsey's ability to fight in the clinch and throw heavy punches from the inside would also be an asset against Foreman in my opinion. If Lyle and Jimmy Young could floor him and Clay could knock him out then Dempsey definitely has a more than a chance.

Dempsey was dropped three times in the first round by Firpo. And yes he was outboxed by Brennan.

You should learn how to count and how to judge boxing.

The name Dempsey =Red Rag to a Bull . You'll get used to it!

    • Firpo was down seven times in the first round and Dempsey was down twice. Firpo went down twice in the second before being counted out.
    1st fight.
"Just one man, Fred Fulton, stands today between Jack Dempsey, the shiftiest two-fisted fighter since Bob Fitzsimmons, and Jess Willard, the heavyweight champion of the world. When Dempsey fights as he fought against Bill Brennan here last night, no lesser man can stand against him. Dempsey knocked Brennan out in the sixth round, and it was a masterly piece of work. Very few fighters have taken a better licking or taken their licking better than Brennan did last night. In sixty-seven fights Brennan had not been knocked off his feet, and his record includes about forty knockouts. Dempsey had him down four times in the second round and twice in the sixth. That ought to be answer enough to the question, can Dempsey hit? Just once did Brennan's robust wallop net Dempsey for a punch that stung. Dempsey took that punch and came back fighting like a tiger. Brennan's vaunted defense crumpled like paper before Dempsey's attack and his deadly left hand could not find its mark. Dempsey punished the big Chicagoan in every round but one." (Warren Evening Time

    • 2nd Fight.
    • The Canadian Press Service reported: "The champion proved to be Brennan's master in nearly every stage of the bout."

The first Firpo knockdown is obscured in the film. I just noticed.

Any sub 200 pounder getting hit by Foreman is the same as getting finger snapped by Thanos

Unfortunately for boxrec warriors and armchair experts some of us can watch these fights in their entirety and dont have to rely on the Canadian Press Service for the facts in order to preserve the reputation of our favorite fighter:

Three times. Right at the beginning of the fight Dempsey rushed Firpo and was hit with a right hand that caused him to fall to his knees and grab Firpo around the waist. Later, after Dempsey had dropped Firpo, he rushed in and was hit with a round house right hand that made him touch both gloves to the canvas. Finally he was down and out of the ring in the most famous event of the fight. Thats three.

And yes, Brennan outboxed Dempsey. Watch the fight instead of reading about it. Brennan fought a very similar fight plan to what Gene Tunney used later to defeat Dempsey. He kept Dempsey off with a jab and when Dempsey broke through he would drop a right and clinch. Whenever Dempsey was off balance Brennan would attack.

And again, Brennan and Firpo werent 1/10 the fighter Foreman was. Nevermind the fact that Foreman was a big black heavyweight who was durable could punch and had talent. So in short Dempsey would have avoided him like the plague.
