People aren't really hanging their hat on Jared Anderson as the next great heavyweight, are they?

First, Makhmudov is a middle-aged guy. He's 34. And he hasn't done anything yet. Makhmudov has three years left, tops. Then he's an also-ran.

Anderson is 11 years younger than Makhmudov. If Anderson looks as bad as Makhmudov does in 11 years, I'll agree with you.

Gassiev? Lord. How is Gassiev a better prospect? He fights once a year. He is constantly hurting himself in training camp.

Jared Anderson turned pro in 2019. He's fighting for the 16th time in a week and a half. He's rated in the top 7 by the WBC and WBA/top 5 by the WBO. Gassiev moved up to heavyweight in 2019. He's fought four times. He's isn't rated in any org's top 10.

Gassiev IS NOT a better heavyweight prospect than Jared Anderson.

We'll see about Jalolov. Jalolov-Anderson could be the big rivalry in the years ahead. (They have the most 'heat' right now.)

    :risas3: you must be trolling

Gassiev is a PROVEN world class fighter, former world champion. And in another league to the unproven Jared Anderson.

Considering how poor Anderson looked in his last fight, he might well be the new Seth Mitchell. He didn't want that exposing by Kossubutskiy did he

When has Anderson ever scored a devasting KO like this one

Gassiev and Anderson have been professional heavyweights since 2019.

One has 4 fights. One has 15 fights.

One has cancelled fights claiming injury every year since he's been a heavyweight, one hasn't.

One is ranked in the top 10 by three of the four sanctioning bodies. One isn't ranked in the top 10 by anyone.

Gassiev not only isn't a better heavyweight prospect (he's been fighting for too long to be one), he isn't even a top 10 heavyweight contender.

Trotting out Gassiev's name as a heavyweight prospect is trolling.

I like his style, entertaining to watch, probably learned heaps from sparring fury but looks too small but then again look at usyk I guess. Great or luck to him once wilder retires

one is signed to Top Rank getting all opportunities on a plate given to him, is a manufactured product, and is seen as the hope of the entire USA for the heavyweight division.

And the other is in Russia (a blacklisted country at war right now) with a small promoter with very little money, has been refused a USA visa the last few years, and had frequent injuries. He's even had to change his citzenship to another country in an attempt to be allowed into the world of mainstream boxing!

Even you (Gassievs biggest hater in the world) deep down knows it's highly likely Gassiev would destroy Anderson!

Why does Gassiev need a US visa to get ranked?

Are all the top heavyweights from the US?

Are all the heavyweight champions from the US?

Are all the major heavyweight fights taking place in the US?

    NO.

    So take your excuses elsewhere.

Last I checked, all the big heavyweight fights in recent years took place in the UK, Saudi or, next up, Poland.

    Where were Hrgovic-Zhang, Hrgovic-McKean, Joyce-Dubois, Joyce-Zhang 1, Fury-Whyte, Fury-Chisora 3, Joshua-Usyk 1 & 2, Joshua-Franklin, Joshua-Hrgovic held ... and where will Usyk-Dubois, Joyce-Zhang 2 and possibly Usyk-Fury and Wilder-Joshua be held?

    Not in the US.

Nobody needs a US visa to get ranked. Tyson Fury doesn't have a US visa.

    @Dubblechin It's not excuses, it's facts.

The only foreign promoters who usually sign Russian fighters is American ones, but since the invasion of Ukraine, USA promoters won't touch Russian fighters with a bargepole and they can't get visas.

USA has all the money, TV deals with regular dates, promoters, gyms, trainers and so on..

UK has dominated the heavyweight division in recent years that's true, with the majority of the big heavyweight fights being staged there. However when does a UK promoter ever sign a Russian fighter and put him on UK shows. Answer = never.

And it's not just the small budget of his small promoter, Gassiev is being massively avoided too. He's having trouble getting fights because the big boys know he is dangerous and they don't want to take the risk

    Have to disgree.
    • Yes, Makhmudov is 34. He's also slugger (they age the best) and has no mileage on his clock to speak of. His chief problem will be that nobody wants to fight him.
    • Gassiev did have surgery in 2018. He's been bedeviled by legal issues with promoters since that time. I suspect his mysterious, last-minute training camp injuries are nothing more than maneuvers designed to prevent his promoters from putting liens on his purses while he deals with them in court. He's only 29 - he could still make it. He is an extremely-hard, very accurate puncher, with impeccable timing. But if you removed his promoter issues, you'd be stuck with the fact that nobody wants to fight him.
    • The only thing Jalolov lacks in his arsenal is punch variety. He hasn't had chin tested, but in every other area I can think of - he looks superior to Anderson. His chief problem will be that nobody wants to fight him.

I think you are wrong on the last point. I distinctly remember Todd Arum mentioning in an interview around the time that COVID started that all Top Room fighters needed to secure a US Visa in order to be signed. That doesn't mean they can't co-promote them, I suppose.

Boxing is a global sport. The US may be the locale for the big events involving SMALLER weights ... but the US isn't the locale for big heavyweight fights now. And hasn't been for a while.

The big heavyweight fights are in Europe or Saudi.

The biggest heavyweight promoters are Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn, neither of whom are from the US or US-Based. Usyk and his promoter aren't US based.

No US heavyweights control a heavyweight belt. There are only two or three ranked heavyweights (Wilder, Ruiz and Anderson) from the US.

    So, ALL EXCUSES.

You don't need a US Visa to become a heavyweight contender. Sign with one of the Top UK promoters. Sign with Usyk's promoter. Sign with the Canadian promoter in Quebec - worked Mahkmudov. Sign with the Aussie promoters that handle McKean and Tim Tszyu.

Or, better yet, stage fights in Russia. The US held boxing cards all the time when we were fighting in the Middle East. The US held a major boxing card in New York City two weeks after 9-11. Russia hasn't been invaded. Moscow isn't covered in ash.

Boxing isn't a US-centered sport. Frankly, I could give a **** if he doesn't have a US visa. Tyson Fury hasn't had one for several years now.

The IBF offered Gassiev an eliminator with Hrgovic. Gassiev turned it down. Said he was hurt. Then Zhang accepted. And Hrgovic and Zhang fought in SAUDI (NO US VISA REQUIRED) on August 20. Only six "DAYS" later, Gassiev shows up (seemingly healed - a miracle) and fought no-hoper Carlouse Welch (from the US) in Belgrade.

Poor Gassiev. Everyone's against him. :hang

So ENOUGH of this whining about the Visa garbage. The orgs that had Gassiev as their champ at cruiser were ready to fast track him to a title shot - similar to what happened to Usyk - and Gassiev bailed. Now, they don't even rank him in their top 10s.

I think your auto correct went haywire there. ;) Bob Arum is Tyson Fury's US. promoter when he fights here. When he doesn't fight here, Arum doesn't really have any say. And he hasn't fought here since his Visa was denied for his ties to that mobster Kinahan.

When Warren was trying to put together Usyk-Fury in the UK, Arum didn't have any involvement. It's not his jurisdiction.

You don't need a US Visa to fight Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Zhilei Zang, Joe Joyce, Filip Hrgovic, Martin Bakole, Joseph Parker, Otto Wallin, or really anyone.

    @Dubblechin

Top Rank has Fury, Makhmudov, Anderson,Torrez , Ajagba, Jalolov, Kean
PBC have Wilder, Ruiz, Ortiz, Sanchez, Martin, Demirezen, Pero
    Salita has Wallin, Franklin, Miller,

So what that the UK (and Ukraine) are on top right now. Doesn't change that USA still has plenty of big HW fights taking place there.

USA is the country that's home to fighters travelling from all over the world to train and base themselves there to fight, and sign with a USA promoter.. Places like UK and Australia in comparison don't really get that to that extent. So if you take away that avenue for Russian fighters, it is a legit excuse.

There's no money for pro boxing in Russia. To this day no television pays for the rights to show professional fights in Russia , promoters actually have to pay TV for the right to show their product!

Not everyone can be as privileged as Jared Anderson.

I think he will get knocked out within the next few fights unless they pair him up with non punchers, Martin exposed him and now people won't be scared of him anymore.

Top Rank co-promotes Fury, but has nothing to do with his fights outside the US. And Franklin fought Whyte and Joshua in the UK. PBC fighters box all over the globe (Washington just fought in the UK last weekend). Nearly half of Anthony Joshua's title fights (Ruiz twice, Martin, Molina, Breazeale) came against PBC boxers. Only one of those fights was in the US.

    It's a lame excuse.

Sign with Frank Warren. Sign with Eddie Hearn. Sign with the Canadian promoters. Sign with the Aussie promoters. Sign with the Saudi promoters (they signed Badou Jack and Derek Chisora, I'm sure they'd take Gassiev).

Talk about privilege. Being gifted and eliminator after one heavyweight fight and turning it down, only to fight some scrub a couple days after your would've-been eliminator and whining about "not getting chances.":hang

You don't need a US Visa to fight Tyson Fury (he doesn't even have one), Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, Martin Bakole, Filip Hrgovic, Joseph Parker, Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, Otto Wallin, or anyone ANYWHERE OUTSIDE THE US.

You only need a US Visa to fight here. So don't fight in the US.

It's a big world. Pick a place that isn't Vegas. No big heavyweight fights are happening there anyway.

    It's a lazy excuse.
