The Inoue vs Crawford P4P debate has made me realize that "context" does not matter. Rant

They are meaningless. Doesn't mean I don't understand them

How does Jermell's resume compare to Bud's? Who fought better competition in their careers? The answer to that could come down to how you rate Spence. Before Bud fought Spence, has Bud ever fought fighters as good as Lubin, Trout, Harrison or Castaño? And how does post car crash Spence compare to those guys?

Ok.... this is my position on this. If we're going strictly off names, Spence is a better win than any of those guys. If we're going off of circumstances, I have to give the edge to Charlo. Anyone with a pair of eyes can see that Spence was not well.

I am going to stick my nose into this a little bit. I believe that, at least related to Harrison and Castano, you have it backwards. The only truly good wins they have are over Charlo. They fact they beat Charlo makes him rate worse it does not make them rate better.

I agree a lot with your entire post.

But when you say Crawford is a tremendous fighter it contradicts the facts you have laid out. He has not, among some of those other fighters, demonstrated high level skill and ability against a top level healthy prime opponent. So to be honest, we don’t know how good he is.

Well we can approximate some things like his vulnerabilities - being outboxed by edge of retirement Shawn Porter, getting dropped by Kavalauskias etc.

I think by saying he is a ‘tremendous fighter’ is in ways appeasing those fanboys who don’t even take into account the context even when you lay out the obvious in front of them. It downplays the very good points you’ve made about how context matters.

It seems for the so called ‘boxing fan’ if one highly ranked fighter (whether worthy of that ranking or not) gets beat, the winner gets praised no matter the condition of the opponent. This is frankly dumb as ****

Rigondeaux was hailed as the greatest fighter of the lower weights and was being put on p4p lists when he beat Donaire. Rigondeaux shocked the boxing world with that win. Don't rewrite history.

When I say tremendous, I am clearly going off the "eye test".
Speaking on Crawford's talent, I was going off the "eye test" which can be extremely flawed I admit. Loma is considered by many to be a top 5 skilled fighter of all time but I am not sure he beats Manny, Duran, and Pernell who I do think he is more "skilled" than. But..... even with today's crop of competition, I would not bet on Crawford beating Ennis, Virgil, or Charlo. Hell, if you placed Crawford in today's 135 to 140 division, I do not believe he come out unscathed if he fought everyone.

Still did not receive a quarter of the hype Inoue has received.

He hasn't done as much as Inoue has.

Mmmmmm I thought Charlo beat Harrison the first time and the first Castano fight was rightfully a draw. I think Harrison, Lubin, and Castano are P4P better than Brook, Porter, Ugas, Khan, and Kava imo
