Frank Smith is on one of the YouTube outlets today saying Boxxer and Ben Shalom are "clueless" (the headline says "F**king Clueless" but he never said it, to my ears at least). He seems one of the most graceless people in boxing, despite basically being Hearn's bag carrier. Fair play to the guy for working his way up from an unqualified wannabe to nominal CEO of the boxing division, but if he was any good as a promoter would Eddie still be the face of every card they put on? Probably because Smith comes across almost as badly at public speaking as Shalom does. So who does Smith think he is, slagging off other promoters taking risks and trying to make competition? Take away his Matchroom support team and the Hearns history in boxing and he's absolutely nothing. Let's see him break away and start a promotion and see how he gets on.
I think Smith runs much of the operational matters as CEO, hence Eddie being Chairman. I agree he's no front man.
Probably right, although Eddie is chair across all the sports and yet still spends half his life on the boxing. It's not like he spends 2 weeks at the World Matchplay Darts is it, the CEO of that division is perfectly capable.
Frank Smith is actually taking a much more prominent rule in making fights and signing fighters than Eddie Hearn. He has been directly involved in negotiating with Saudi Arabia for Joshua vs Wilder and even managed to sign Andy Cruz. He knows a lot more than Ben Shalom in my opinion. Don't get the hate for Frank Smith personally. He has worked extremely hard to get to the position he is in. I think a lot of people think that Frank Smith just makes drinks for Hearn - he actually does a lot more work than Hearn whose main role is now to sell the fights to the media.
you're right mate. I do feel Hearn loves the boxing more than the others though. I've no idea if Smith is good or rubbish, although I can't imagine they'd keep him around if he's useless. Although by that logic Bellew would be long gone.... And they did sign Maya Jama that well known boxing expert.
The fat useless clown went to matchroom HQ for work experience likely through family connections then was given a job in the barista dept for whatever reason. I’ve forgotten more about boxing than this guy will ever know
Appreciate the straight response. In a sense you've confirmed my view. Frank is presumably a competent business operator after watching Matchroom grow. My point is, he acts like he built the company and that promoters aren't allowed to make their own mistakes. No doubt Boxxer is stumbling here and there and you could kind of understand the Hearns or old Frank having a view on that; for Frank to have such an arrogant attitude stinks.
Made a disgraceful comment about Frank Warren on one of the YouTube channels today. I find age discrimination completely classless. Sadly, quite obviously there is a minority that find it acceptable.
...but it is also difficult for Matchroom's employees because every single day they are told that Eddie Hearn is the world's biggest and best boxing promotor
