Well sure, but I guess I mean official rankings, which actually hold sway within the sport because they are recognized by the governing bodies, regardless of how corrupt they may be.
No one is going to take these rankings seriously. AJ obviously isn't the second best heavyweight. AJ two most recent fights were against mediocre at best fighters and AJ looked terrible.
I believe BoxRec will show Joshua in the top spot on Monday. At that point Usyk will have been inactive for more than a year and will be considered inactive by the website.
WBC haven't recognized their own heavyweight rankings in nearly a decade But yeah, the only time I have heard Boxrec mentioned was by Frank Warren trying to sell the sheeple on Fury #1 v Chosora #6
That will be funny to see him disappear in a week (to only reappear a few days later). To be followed by Ortiz, Ruiz, Wilder, and Fury by the end of the year. I fully expect they will receive a tap on their shoulder and a reconfiguration of their ranking algorithm will occur. Much like what happened after Fury v Wilder 2. Which is what really messed up their whole ranking system across all divisions, which I'm sure was just coincidental and not to keep Wilder high in the rankings - smh
Hey, they had Lovejoy at 15 once ... seriously. Any organization that gives Lovejoy his due for his long winning streak, is all ok by me.
The thing that first jumped out at me was the change in how they calculate KO %. Before they did KO's/number of bouts (more logical imo), now they do KO's/total wins. So some fighters with several losses on their record but an otherwise high KO ratio (Joshua, Ortiz) have been boosted, Ortiz in particular because they stopped considering the no contests, which were previously held against him (NC's not being considered is a positive change though). There have no doubt been other tweaks, such as fighters getting more points for just being *scheduled* to fight a high calibre opponent (one of the reasons for Dubois' absurd overranking). DQ wins should be classed as KO's too as they are frequently quit jobs. It's a poor update overall, whereas the last update for the heavyweights (which deranked a lot of fighters) was a positive change in better comprehending the difference in levels in the division. Predictably, Mitch didn't like it. And as always, Boxrec isn't perfect; by nature it's very quantitative. But I haven't seen anyone design something better which is similarly in-depth yet.
