Any basis for George Foreman's power being overrated?

Foreman can hit, but he kos as said before were not always "Clean" if that makes sense. It was not going to look like a Joe Louis knockout, outcold, ten count and all. Or even Marciano's ko over Walcott the first time.

Foreman could never KO the likes of Harry Matthews, Roland LaStarza, Don Coc'ell, Rex Layne and co nor monsters like Pator, Godoy, Paychek, Burman, Dorazio, Tony Musto and co. A real murderers row.

Unfortunately Ali threw out that particular accolade so often it made his kinfolk in Africa almost always nervous whenever he fought and no matter who he fought. Even Henry Cooper received retroactive credit for doing same. :D

Joking bro and I understand your point - whatever else he said (and he talked a lot that one, didn’t he? lol) Ali clearly did nominate Earnie as the hardest puncher he ever faced - and he said in a soft genuine and almost reverent tone, no bombast.

Glad someone here has the ****s to bust the Foreman power punching myth. Time to put that little fairy tale to bed.

Exactly, he beat nothing but stiffs, a borderline ATG, a reigning lineal champ, an ex lineal champ, a few contenders and then came back nearing his pension and knocked out another reigning lineal champ.

A spud. Lucky for him all those named weren't about. Guy would have been their sparring partner if lucky and more likely carrying their spit bucket.

That is fine, I see you are not used to researching things online.
I do not know what about Clack make you say "again" about his ego, but there is always the possibility that he is just wrong.
Ego is also a funny thing; it can cover straight up lying, & not acknowleding The Truth even to one's self due to its operation.

But back to possibly merely being mistaken-not saying this is the most likely explanation, but sometimes the braiaiain may not register things properly, or someone hits you just right & effects you disproportionately & everything from that point forward is just Pain...

Like Andy Ruiz has a real HW, punch, but I severely doubt he hit AJ the hardest.
But he caught him coming forward, compounding the force, just right on the temple...
SO although old Wlad still hit like a truck, Ruiz likely would have subjectively registered that Ruiz blow as the hardest.

Don’t know about overrated but Qawi was eating loads and loads of flush shots for 8 rounds and packed in himself on his feet. Baring in mind he was really a blown up light heavy. Possibly had all time durability , but at the very least waaaay tougher than Frazier/Norton.

Well I'm happy to do this too mate, but how do I say, get the info from an issue of the weekly Boxing News November 26th online (for example)? It's not quite the same as accessing a NY Times article and the like.

One great piece i would like to root out again is an article from the late 1960s or early 1970s (BI i think but not sure)- it has the top 20 Nielsen ratings for boxing fights from that decade, very interesting. Amazing how popular Jerry Quarry was (I suppose it was the 'White Hope' thing). I knew he was well-liked, mind but not to that extent.

Quite right. Larry was far more deserving of being called “The Truth” than Carl Williams - especially after Carl surrendered on his feet vs Tyson and then “protested” after Randy Neumann waved it off. Seen that schtick a few times from certain fighters..…

    :D

Definitely. Either that or the 'Real Deal', as we're dealing with a man, more than a man, a god of boxing. A great god whose loyalty to only telling the 'truth', the 'whole truth' and nothing but 'the truth', make my feeble opinion sound wretchedly and pathetically inadequate. Someone whose boots I would gladly lick clean, until holes wore through my tongue! I would rather be sealed in a pit of my dog's faeces than ever dare say a cross word about him again.

He used to be known as The Mallard on here back in the day- The 'Real Truth' is a far more accurate moniker.

He failed to stop Savarese, Stewart, Morrison, Peralta 1, and Crawford Grimsley. Both Savarese and Grimsley have been knocked out by what was basically the first punch thrown at them in a fight.

Foreman was also allowed to drop Qawi with an illegal kidney shot and routinely push off with both hands during that fight. Qawi didn't get a fair shake.
