**** that **** was ruthless. He was better than I thought looking back. I know back then the UFC was just starting out and their skills were limited. But **** he used his body weight well. Would have been a mad bar room brawler.
You can't teach that kind of power. Abbott could crack and had a mean streak. I'm sure he'd do alright today especially with a decent team behind him.
He was strong as ****, didnt he bench 500+lbs? Obviously a limited fighter though but for the time he was pretty scary. You generally had to be like a true skilled proto-modern MMA guy to beat him. If you were some ninja in jeans or something he'll Nelmark you.
Nah, he was good losing most of his fights in up to two minutes. But back then, those kind of rough, but not skilled enough were an attraction.
A bar fighter with basic boxing training and a collegiate wrestling background. A dangerous man for sure
I was a Tank fan. His long bumpy decline (and silly run in WCW, after building up my hopes for a serious Goldberg feud) bummed me out, but once the sport became fully gelled as the new hybridized cross-disciplinary thing we know today, crude pioneers like him were never going to be able to hang.
That's true.... but Tank also fell behind because of his lifestyle. I think Tank with a good team behind him would do alright today. I means for ****s sake... Derrick Lewis is a top 10 HW and a perennial contender, and a good chunk of the division consists of fat nonathletic blown of Middleweights who don't hit anywhere near as hard as tank did. The HW division apart from the top guys just hasn't progressed enough to where the likes of Abbott would be hopeless competing today. Even a 40 year old Abbott still packed a mean punch and was able to crack some pretty solid chins. That's a damn solid win all things considered. Cabbage 13 years younger, his chin held up well against prime elite heavyweights like Sylvia and Arlovski..... But old Tank needed a little more than a minute to take care of business.... a testament to how hard that crude bar brawler could crack. This content is protected
Him bragging about getting the call and rolling off a barstool to head into the cage day-of seemed really badass in the day, but yeah, probably not great for sustainable longevity in a grueling bloodsport.
Man... Tank would have been fun in the current freakshow landscape. BKFC, and those weird Russian boxing cards would have been perfect fit.
grat K.O. The commentator '' I don't know if tank can knock out cabbage '' literally a second later......BANG!!!!!!
I was going to say Tank would get mopped by today's heavies but then I looked at the rankings and didn't realize heavyweight was so poor. He'd never be Top 3 but ya he probably could be a Lewis or Tai type fighter.
Wait seriously? This is the internet so the sensible first reaction is to assume this is BS and yet that is such an incredibly random thing for someone to BS about it almost could be credible.
