If lifting living cows atop one’s shoulders was an Olympic sport, he’d have probably gotten a gold medal in that as well as in boxing.
He was obviously a very strong man but not even the strongest man in his own sport. The strength world has hosted all sorts, sorts in regards to picking things up far more singular than George.
He was obviously a big powerful guy by the standards of 1970s HW boxing but theres probably thousands of guys outside of even powerlifting (in American football, rugby and wrestling especially) at any one time who are stronger than any HW boxer.
Precisely. George is likely stronger than 99% of all men. Those cats are stronger than 99.9999999% of all men.
I'm not up to speed with the sport, but had the impression the top guys were on the stocky side Anderson and Zybysko certainly were.
I remember reading that his early/first trainer had him quit lifting weights, had he developed his boxing stamina, yeah it wasn't great compared to say Ali but certainly superior to any powerlifter, and then gone back to lifting instead of continuing boxing after the Olympics or a couple pro fights, absolutely
Yeah but George would be focusing on powerlifting training. Foreman strikes me as the type who would bench press 250 pounds without ever having lifted weights. If Foreman actually trained powerlifting, he would be very strong. He also could have made a good bodybuilder.
He could have been a good Olympic Weighttlifter, I don't think as good as Patera or Alexiev, he made the right choice in boxing.
