I have been looking everywhere for this tiny, elusive piece of info, so any reliable help would be appreciated. Sonny Liston Born: Charles L. Liston Does anyone know his middle name; ie, what does the 'L' stand for? Reliable sources/documents would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
According to the book "The Devil and Sonny Liston" ... Liston's parents didn't name him. The woman who delivered him did. And she named him Charles L. Liston. Liston's mom, Helen, said she never knew what the L. stood for. (Seriously) This wasn't an educated group of people. So it means "L."
24 siblings. Date of birth (even the year) and date of death unknown. Cause of death is even disputed.
Unfortunately I couldn’t tell you. Fathers name was Tobe and no (possibly passed on) middle name listed for Tobe. It appears Liston had an older brother named Leo b. 1923. @SolomonDeedes might have more info on the initial “L” - even if only to confirm that it has only ever represented the letter “L” itself.
Harry S Truman’s middle name was just the S … it didn’t stand for anything. Sonny’s middle name should have had two L’s after the Ali rematch.
How about Fllloyd Patterson after the Liston rematch or Lllarry Holmes after his second go around with M. Spinks?
As Dubblechin said, according to his mother it didn't stand for anything - it was randomly assigned to him by the midwife when he was born. https://ibb.co/PYfSc5s
Thanks Solomon. Re “Sonny”, he apparently got that nick when he first went to prison, is that correct?
