Okay so in this photo [url]https://i.ibb.co/BNhJ4bf/1.jpg[/url] the waistband is basically level with the navel which is clearly visible. Also the black groin guard is slightly above the waistband of the shorts.
You say the punch landed "right on the navel". The navel is a small area. What about the entire impact area of the punch, how much surface did it cover when it connected? Bearing in mind the size of Dubois gloved fist.
Visually the waistband of the shorts look about 4 inches until the shorts start.

Lerena would actually looks better if Dubois was to win the fight, as he was to lose to a guy that become World Champion. So it would have make sense to say the shot was legal.
But they gave their share opinion on the situation, and they are 100% correct.

I still don't get it why Kevin didn't appeal that fight (which he won). Dubois suffered an injury, fine, but that's his problem. Many fighters suffer injuries and even quit fights that they are solidly winning. It is weird that the fighters rarely appeal.

 

The refs job is to enforce the rules as per MOQ .. it is not make up his own to suit his criteria like the ref in Ward Kovalev 2. It looked low, technically it is low, so whats the debate? It doesn't have to be a direct hit on the sack. Low blows will be given as a foul by the referee who will take incrementally larger punishments if the foul is repeated or if he thinks it was deliberate .. if anything Dubois was actually lucky the ref was quite tolerant... & even if it was ruled a KD Usyk would have gathered himself & beat the count. Dubois got schooled. So other than a modern Chuck Wepner moment it seems like the ref made the right call. Move on, Usyk was the better man.
