The officiating was beyond biased toward the home fighter. Efe was warned multiple times and not deducted any points. Zhan clearly got himself DQ'd in protest of the bias.

Background: Kossobutsky has "VISA troubles" stopping him from fighting against Anderson in a highly anticipated match up. He is then allowed in to fight Ajagba (a more established opponent than Anderson).

Please note, I’m not going to include anything that landed on the line (the top of the trunks), as that is fair game.:

Ajagba will beat him again and probably by decision

Zhan struggled with that reach Ajagba had over him, like I said would happen

I think Zhan struggled with being hit with 21 "unintentional" low blows :sisi1

I was surprised by the result. I knew Zhan wasn't that good and didn't get all the hype he was getting with people saying he'd beat Anderson but I didn't think he'd lose to some one as limited as Ajagba.

Yeah Ajagba was landing low first and the ref didn't seem to care enough to do anything about it other than to tell Ajagba to keep them up. But Zhan allowed that to take him out of his fight plan and that's why he lost. Fact is when you fight abroad the deck is stacked against you to some degree and you have to expect that and know how to deal with it.

Zhan clearly made a decision that if he was going to get fouled he would foul back which was dumb. The ref had already shown he wasn't going to do him any favours so why risk giving the ref the chance to deduct points or disqualify you, which is exactly what happened.

Ajagba was smart too, because when he was hit low he ensured the ref had no choice but to do something by going down and grabbing his groin. Ref couldn't simply ignore it like with Zhan's complaints.

In the end Zhan simply seemed to decide that he was going to get himself disqualified, didn't even seem too bothered when it happened, he'd already decided he would lose no matter what.

Had the fight been in Europe yeah the result might have gone differently but in the end Zhan allowed the dirty tactics to ruffle him and throw the fight away.

You've put a lot of effort in this post.

The truth is, never seen a more mentally weak opponent than Zhan. He did well in the opening round (despite losing it) but looks like a total nutcase. Never want to see him again on a major platform.

I think he mentally quit after feeling Ajagbas power.

Zhan realized that he would not be able to cope against the tall and rangy Ajagba...

I think it is difficult to expect a fighter to keep their composure in such a situation, he got hit low (unintentional or not) more than ten times in the second round alone. Ricky Hatton lost his head over a lot less when he fought Mayweather (and Cortez).
Not sure I agree, I think many fighters are expected to give as good as they get. The issue was, zero leeway was shown to Zhan, the referee escalated to point deduction without giving a warning. Ajagba was given nothing but warnings.
    I agree with you here.
Well I think that was a fair assessment on his part, as he obviously felt he was fighting both Ajagba and the referee. Similar to Hatton above.
You are probably right, the U.S. of A. does seem to have a thing for calling low blows on european fighters "good body work", but taking great exception when it is the other way around. Ward/Golota (cough cough)

Zhan should have been expecting preferential treatmen for the A-side, while going as an unknown to America. As twisted as it sounds, he was in luck the referee was calling Ajagba to keep them up consistently and would likely end up taking points. Answering with extremely low blows of his own was not the proper response, but I reckon he knew he was losing rounds, and Ajagba had the power. Going the distance whilst taking low blows was hardly in his interest after he got paid, especially since even a competetive fight would likely be given to Efe.

Holyfield-Foreman is a good example of the referee being mindful and consistent through the fight, warning George when his blows were straying on the beltline, and eventually taking a point.

True, there were several low blows from Ajagba, very similar to the one in Usyk vs Dubois.

Some of them were on the belt line, some of them were deflected down from Kossobutzkyi's defensive guard, as Ajagba was throwing from a high stance. Dont think Efe was doing on purpose.

Not sure it got to 21, but the ref did a poor job, quite bias towards Ajagba.

I'm glad some people are seeing what I saw. It's more blatant the more you watch it, and you can read Zhan's emotions throughout as Efe repeatedly throws the same low blows directly in front of the ref.

Even the low shots Zhan did throw (and it took him 3 rounds to concede that the ref wasn't going to do his job) were a direct response to those from Efe. The one that got him DQ'ed you could see Efe throw a right to his trunks two seconds before.

Honestly this fight is enfuriating to watch. More so given that most people's reaction has been 'Zhan quit, couldn't handle him, exposed.' Zhan closed the range almost out of the gate, Efe hardly did anything beyond tapping the arms, gloves and testicles, the last of which was the only thing making Kossobutskiy uncomfortable.

Hope Zhan gets Anderson on the back of that 'loss' and can move on quickly.

It was very biased officiating but Zhan's illegal shots were so blatant and low. He looked very disinterested. Bizarre.

Ajagba would've beaten him anyway did you not see him outbox Zhan every round. He is overrated

Sure, but the ref watched Efe land SO many on Zhan and did pretty much nothing.

Zhan's emotions shifted from his usual 'with the fairies' look to start, to 'ref, he just jabbed my balls three times in a row and you're not doing anything?' to grimacing from a right hand to the balls and turning and waiting for the ref to give at least a warning, to taking another and turning to his corner to explain it in English, to realising the ref didn't care, to anger in taking another shot low and throwing heavy leather at Efe, to taking another low shot and lacking the control at this point to refrain from throwing one back.

Zhan clearly won the first round, I'm not sure what punches you're giving Efe for him to win that one (on the gloves, arms, or the trunks?).

He was also landing by far the better shots in 2 and 3 in between exasperating from the low blows.

He closed the distance quickly in round 1, and had an easier time finding Efe clean than vice-versa.

    Where's the outboxing?
