WBA statement: Dubois hit Usyk with a low blow

The World Boxing Association (WBA) after the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois published an official statement, reacting to the victory of the Ukrainian boxer.

“There was a dramatic moment in the fight when Dubois delivered a low blow, from which Usyk fell to the canvas. The area he hit sparked controversy about the legality of the hit, but the referee ruled that the hit had landed below the belt and gave Usyk the necessary recovery time to continue the fight...,” the statement reads.

Thus, the organization recognizes that Dubois landed an illegal blow in the fifth round and the referee of the fight did the right thing, giving Usyk time to recover.

Hope that dissuades the next guy from trying to copy Dubois. It won't of course, expect a DQ soon.

Yea the WBA also put Stiverne in a title match a couple years back so I don't trust their judgement

Fans like you will always find an excuse not to accept official results. Yeah, this judge was paid, that governing body is incompetent, that coach is an idiot, this expert is old and KSAB "so I don't trust their judgement".

I wasn't convinced, but I saw a better angle of it and now I'm convinced it was a low blow. Half of Dubois glove was well under the belt. It's debatable but I don't think dubois was robbed, especially considering Usyk schooled him and KO'd him late.

If it was the other way around, Usyk would have been protected and they would have given him the victory.

Good. They should banish Dubois and all Big Frank's fighters from their rankings for royally embarrassing themselves, the tiny majestic isle of Great Britain, and the sport of boxing for waging this ridiculous and pathetic faux outrage coordinated campaign for ''justice'' and crying all these baba tears after their boy got outclassed, dominated and then made to quit from a jab after being bounced up and down off the canvas x 2 by an aged, inactive past prime much smaller blown up CW.

And that would be wrong, but in this case, which sits in the realm of reality, the correct call was made, by both the ref and the WBA.

Youre 100% wrong. I thought it was a knockdown, but the ref made a judgement call and said it was a low blow, like what happens all the time. I also thought if it was ruled a knockdown Usyk would of gotten up and fought on. I did not think it was some sort of robbery or corrupt decision and I had no problem with the result of this fight.

Each to their own - and we'll all have differing opinions on this.
In my opinion, the punch was in line with the top of the hips, so was a legal shot.

As for the WBA statement...erm, ok, well, it must be true then. :asskisser

Good, last thing we need is more unnecessary rematches. Another fight between the two doesn't go any differently and is a big waste of time in an era where boxers usually only get out 1-3 times. Bring on Hrgovic and the winner of Zhang/Joyce, or Fury or Wilder or whoever.

Did anybody really expected the wba says in aftermath its own fight was questionable and their referee was questionable ???

Of course the wba says all was perfect , regardless what happened .

    That's a wrap.

    They made the right call.

There won't be a rematch, as Dubois did nothing in the fight.
