Vitali has to control distance and I don't believe he can keep Tyson on the outside so then he's got Mike slamming hooks to his midsection. Might go the distance but Mike takes it and Vitali takes a sore body home.
1988 Mike Tyson is certainly a danger, and a threat to every heavyweight in boxing history. On the other hand, Vitali is the same. I dare not predict the outcome of this fight. I'm just saying, "don't dismiss 1988 Mike Tyson so easily." I understand that such a Mike would be pushed to the limit, and subjected to a test that he has not had in his reign. But the same is the case with Vitaly.
I reckon so, too. I remember when Showtime interviewed Vitali who was on hand to watch the Mike Tyson-Orlin Norris fight. They just seemed like they were not only two distinctly different eras, but almost different weight classes ... like the gulf between Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston.
As much as I like Mike Tyson, any version of him would struggle against a prime Vitali due to the Ukranians size and awkward style. Tyson gets frustrated easily when things dont go his way, he isn’t good at adapting and I think he would struggle to adapt to Vitali’s style and reach. Vitali had the power, chin, accuracy and skill to hang competitively with any top atg heavyweight, just never got his chance to shine properly. Wish that cut never happened in the lennox fight, think he was up on the cards and could have beat Lewis who was far from being shot. I got Vitali on this one.
That’s not an answer. And you’re reaching too hard. Many ATG HW boxers that know more about boxing than everyone here combined, says power is the last thing to go in a boxer. And Lennox had power, his knockouts speak for themselves. Vitali took it no problem, bar the cut, Vitali’s chin is solid. Besides… Tyson is 5 ft 10 Vitali is just shy of 6’8, Tyson has a 71 inch reach… he ain’t gonna catch Vitali easily and its going to be infrequent and his punching mechanics/form will be inefficient at that range. Vitali by points/stoppage.
At the end of the day, it would be a dangerous fight for both. But I’d favor Vitali overcoming a couple scares and out boxing Tyson to a UD. Too much mastery in distance control, strength and mean streak in Vitali. Mike isn’t intimidating him. PRIME TYSON that is. Post Prison Tyson gets knocked out in 7.
Prime Tyson has a shot at winning a decision against anyone in history. Prime Vitaly, the one who beat up Herbie Hide, would be a nightmare to any ATG due to his awkward style, chin and will to win. Either could take it, it depends at what distance the fight would take place: if Tyson could swarm Vitlai he wins by decision or late stoppage. If Tyson can't swarm Vitali, he gets the Holyfield treatment without the late stoppage.
More strength but not necessarly more power. Lewis was lethal from the outside where he could leverage his lengthy body. Tyson would bulldoze you in mid-close range. Power-wise, they are about equal, or maybe a slight advantage to Lewis with better one shot KO power.
Tyson was a bully. Vitali ain't being bullied. After eating a heap of stiff jabs, Tyson walks into a big shot at some point in the middle rounds and wakes up 5 minutes later. Every fighter who genuinely believed they could beat Tyson ended up beating Tyson. A very average Buster Douglas showed that if you stand up to the playground bully they almost always back down. Mike had most of his opponents scared to death before they entered the ring. But he wouldn't scare either Klitschko.
