I never thought of Padilla as being crooked or biased in any way over the course of his refereeing career, but I often thought his officiating favored one guy over another due to style or how he approached any particular fight — he was just, to me, remarkably inconsistent rather than favoring one guy over the other because of who they were. I think he was sensitive to criticism and if a fight camp made an objection beforehand (like Duran’s camp objecting to him because they said he wouldn’t let Duran fight on the inside) he might lean the other way to show it wasn’t a fair criticism.

I think it might've been part of the game-plan, to rough Pacquiao up - maybe just Nedal overhyped himself a little bit.
    Glad You enjoyed it!

    Camacho vs. Davis

Not exactly Gatti-Ward but not an ANDRE WARD bout either.
At the time it was considered super boring, but now I feel I've definitely seen worse! And check out the post-fight interview! He says "Rosario, culeate que voy pa Puerto Rico a darte un beso!" which means "Rosario, move your ass, Im going to Puerto Rico to kiss you!" LOL

    Anyways to my scorecard:
    Round 1 10-9 Camacho
Round 2, close but 10-9 Davis
Round three on to round 10, 10-9 Camacho. He had Davis hurt several times.
    99-91 Camacho

The Duran camp criticism was sound. Freddie Brown was the one who voiced his opinion on that one because Brown worked the corner of Vito Antuofermo 3 months earlier in his first bout with Alan Minter where Padilla absolutely refused Vito an inside fight. And with the dimension difference, where else was Vito going to fight? But for the Duran fight, he allows Duran an inside fight. Like you said, inconsistent. I would also mention, woefully confused.

2001-01-19 Willie Jorrin UD12 Oscar Larios I (WBC Super Bantamweight Title)
    Round 1: 10:9
    Round 2: 9:10
    Round 3: 9:10
    Round 4: 9:10*
    Round 5: 10:9
    Round 6: 10:9
    Round 7: 9:10*
    Round 8: 9:10
    Round 9: 9:10
    Round 10: 10:9*
    Round 11: 10:9*
    Round 12: 9:10*
    Final Score: 113:115 Larios

Second of 3 controversial title fights for Jorrin.
I saw Brodie fight couple days ago - one that many felt Brodie won - and I had Jorrin winning it fair and square. His first defence came against mandatory Mexican Oscar Larios, who was also coming off tough, close contest against Cesar Soto.

Larios came out with great pace - and it was clear that Jorrin didn't have enging to go punch for punch with him. To slow the pace down, He was moving a lot and clinching constantly, trying to sneak in single fast shots here and there.
T some extent it was a succesful tactic, as He did make many rounds close - but I think He was still a bit fortunete to - firstly - not get any points deducted and secondly, get a close decision at home.

    Jose Ribalta vs Bruce Seldon

Round 1 10-9 Ribalta, Seldon down with the first punch but hurt Ribalta a few times in the round
Round 2 10-9 Seldon, Ribalta was hurt
Round 3, Seldon 10-8, first Ribalta did a Duran-Rosario-Mugabi turn your back to your opponent, and then he went down

Then the dr. stopped it. Seldon tko4 Good fight!

    Dave Green vs. Reggie Ford:
    This content is protected

    Round one: 10-9 Ford
Round two : 10-8 Ford, Green was winning it until stunningly going down from a right with seconds to go.
Round three: 10-9 Green. Ford came on late but for the most it was a Green round
    Round four: 10-9 Ford
    Round five 10-9 Green
The fight is stopped in Ford's favor despite Green winning the last round, due in part to a Green injury and that he had won the round mainly because Ford was taking a breather. I had Ford ahead by 48-46. Ford wins by tko after round five.

A good find, Antonio. I was always a big fan of Green's and this was a hard one to watch. He really did look like he was punching underwater. When the day is done, that's it. But he gave it a go. Didn't know that Ford was a substitute.

Manny Pac v Jessie Vargas (welterweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Vargas
    Round 2: 10-8 Pac (scores a knockdown)
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Vargas
    Round 6: 10-9 Pac
    Round 7: 10-9 Pac
    Round 8: 10-9 Pac
    Round 9: 10-9 Pac
    Round 10: 10-9 Pac
    Round 11: 10-9 Pac
    Round 12: 10-9 Pac

Total: 118-111 Pac (actual scores: 118-109, 118-109 and a 114-113 all for Pac)

Let's be straight, guys, I didn't find anything spine-tingling about this fight. For a Manny Pac fight...it was OK. I had some time to kill and wanted to check this out, as I missed it first time around. Again, it was OK, but don't go out of your way.

If i remember rightly Pacquaio's fight vs Larios was quite a good scrap, Pacquiao actually gets hurt quite badly in this fight and is pinned along the ropes for like 30 seconds whilst being dazed.

I have to say your scoring surprises me i thought Tapia outboxed Ayala quite clearly and was hard done by. Tapia fought a bit of different fight than his normally overly aggressive style, and i thought his defensive/boxing skills should've got him the win clearly.

Carlos Padilla was a famous actor before he became a referee. He brought a certain presence to the ring, a look of respectability and class, like Arthur Mercante.

But unlike Arthur Mercante, he left a number of people unpleased with his ring actions.

Its interesting also to note that Joe Frazier and Wilfredo Gomez, two of the greatest in-fighters in boxing history, lost what amounted to one of the biggest fights in their career, if not the biggest, with Padilla as referee. In both cases, I dont think the referee would have made a difference anyways, specially in Gomez's case. But it's interesting nevertheless.
