Sounds fabular. Not really, he just didn't fight anybody outside of Liston in those very dubious fights. He was a sucker for a left hook. Apparently coming up with hypothetical scenarios for a hypothetical matchup is tantamount to telling fables. If that's the case please refer to me as Aesop from now on.
In 61 fights Ali was knocked down 3 times. In 68 fights Tunney was knocked down 2 times. Ali fought heavy duty punchers like; Liston Foreman Frazier Lyle M Foster Shavers Plus hard hitters like; Bonavena Cooper Quarry Ellis Patterson Norton That's a dozen bangers, which,if you include blown up light heavies, is the extent of Tunney's heavyweight resume. Who did Tunney ko with a left hook? Which heavyweight punchers was he tested against?
4 times gramps. Don't forget about Journeyman Wepner. The comment about the left hook was pretty general. Ali's 3 first knockdowns came from left hooks. Two of those were from average fighters. Didn't say that Tunney would knock him out with the hook. Just said he was a sucker for it. (comment wasn't made in reference to Tunney anyways) Tunney had a fast left hook. The idea that you have to have a similar or better resume in order to win or to be competitive against someone is a pretty reductive, circular argument. After all, who had Clay really fought before his title match against Liston? Who had Foreman really fought before his destruction of Frazier?
Wepner stood on his foot and hit him in the chest. You must be getting desperate.I see you are back to the insults Wepner was standing on his foot and hit him inthe chest. You really must be getting desperate. Why would you only focus on whom ALI,it is ALI and who he fought before he won the title? But since you have. ALI beat; Cooper no 10 Miteff no9 Daniels no 8 Moore no 9 Lavorante no 7 Jones no 6 That's more ranked heavyweights than Tunney fought his entire career! Now, since I don't like your way of addressing me I'm not responding to you further. You have history here ,and it sure isn't positive history. I should have recognized the pattern earlier, the obstinate use of the name Clay instead of giving him the right to call himself ALI was the give away So since I've no intention of getting embroiled in more negative **** with you and debate with you is singularly unrewarding , I'm not replying to you anymore.
50 x votes for Ali vs 4 for Tunney seems about right. There are rare occasions where I'd pick a boxer to beat an opponent both faster and considerably bigger than them, but this isn't one of them. Tunney isn't outboxing (at long range) a fighter with a 2-3" advantage in height, goodness knows what advantage in reach and who is at least equal in footspeed, handspeed, reflexes and ability to control the range. Neither is he closing the distance and either outmuscling or blasting out an iron chinned peak Ali who had c.30lbs on him. I rate Tunney highly p4p, he's my #21 all time, but this is a frankly unfair match up.
You've been following me around contradicting everything I say on this forum (which is your right). So its highly ironic that you're now the one that bails. Still a knockdown. I'm not focusing on anything. I simply said that the idea that a fighter has to have a similar or better resume in order to beat an opponent is ludicrous and used the examples of Ali and Foreman. I have used 'Ali' and 'Clay' interchangeably. Have a good time gramps. God bless ya.
We didn't discover Ali's chin until after his prime. Before that he was dropped and wobbled every time he was caught clean (which was rarely). FOTC was the first time people discovered that he could take punches repeatedly. Ali had a height and reach advantage against Frazier and Norton and they still closed the distance on him and troubled him. Ali at his peak only weighed about 212lbs which is 20lbs heavier than the 192lb Tunney. He only went over 220lbs later in his career You don't have to have a longer reach to outbox someone at range. For example, you can get them to overreach and counter them or you can jab with them like Norton did. Jabs are all about timing. You seem to take everything into account except skill which is what wins fights at the end of the day. Tunney was the superior ring general. And while the size difference would put the odds in Ali's favour it is not fait accompli.
You're a troll who has been banned under multiple previous accounts. Whilst you can quote my posts in the future should you wish, as Mcvey (eventually) worked out, like all trolls, you're best dealt with by being ignored, so this is the first and last time you quote a post of mine and i respond.
The silent listener finally spoke! Amazing. Don't worry you can just keep liking any comment that goes against me.
