When did this sport become about the promoter rather than the promoted fighter?

Galal Yafai had only had 4 fights none near world level. Can see why it was a NxtGen despite his age.

The world has become about promotion and self importance - Instagram , Twitter, Tik Tok and even boxing forums etc have given everyone the impression that they and their views somehow matter. Social media changed the world works.

5 years ago Eddie used to be routinely booed at all the fights he was promoting. It was always very audible when he took to the mic and I guess it was for quite a few different reasons. But I think the obvious one was his clear contempt for the average boxing fan, how he thinks they're just all so beneath him when everyone knows everything was given to him on a plate. People just aren't as stupid as he thinks.

Frank for all his faults doesn't have those same flaws and I think it's led to people wanting him to be a success at Matchroom's expense. Even people who were quite neutral towards him and Queensbury before.

I read someone on here compare Hearn to Don King and said that King was great for boxing, but terrible for boxers. Hearn is great for the boxers, but terrible for boxing. I'd say that's spot on with Warren being somewhere inbetween.
