One thing about Dave Allen is that he’s always open on his Instagram story. He revealed that he wasn’t tested during camp or even on the day of the fight. I assume it was the same for Frazer Clarke.

Obviously there would be no additional testing for Clarke vs Allen, but it is further evidence that UKAD testing isn’t good enough for the sport right now. Therefore, the fact that the main event Smith vs Eubank only had UKAD testing which is clearly not stringent as shown by this example and countless others, is a disgrace.

I can’t believe Allen wasn’t even tested after the fight. I was sure that UKAD always tested fighters right after the fight to be honest.

Shocking. Not Hearn covering up failed drug tests level shocking but still very bad.

I mean Ben Shalom can’t control when UKAD test a fighter, just that I’m surprised he wasn’t tested after the fight at the very minimum. Maybe it was because he went to hospital after the fight?

My point is that UKAD clearly don’t test enough. I know they do more testing for higher-profile fights, but that is the reason why there needed to be VADA testing for the main event on Saturday. I don’t really buy the excuse of it’s too expensive, since that was a PPV show and their biggest event of the year.

It also points to the problem the sport has in keeping clean when so few drug tests are taken. This is completely ignoring the fact that outside of fight camps the top fighters aren’t tested.

As Larry O says, 80% of PPV fighters are on gear.

It’s ridiculously easy to beat the tests. You can micro dose at 11pm and by 7am when the testers are allowed to test you at home, you will be clean.

It’s a losing battle and only the idiots get caught. Boxing would be better off as a free for all.

Being on the fear wouldn’t help Dave anyway. As far as i know you can’t take anything to stop you from being lazy.

He was that bad it would have been an insult to the effects of the drug had he taken something.

    Every boxer?
Do you think that every footballer is tested? Every rugby player?
How much do you think this would cost UKAD?

Look we, the paying public don't care if they're on gear. We just want to watch a nights entertainment. I'm sure WWF don't winge about this all the time.

Are you going to do a thread on every fight without testing?

Exactly. It’s ‘random’ testing, and just not realistic, feasible or affordable to test every athlete in every sport, all of the time. As UKAD is a quango, they’re reliant on government funding to determine how much they can test. Completely different to a private entity such as VADA.

It was a well-known fight. I never said I expected tests during camp, but surely there should have been a test after the fight.

Matchroom and Hearn have rightly taken a lot of flack for the handling of the Benn situation and their eagerness to weasel themselves out of what should have been a ban for Conor Benn and the fight immediately cancelled.

However, on this point they're absolutely right to come out fighting. If other promoters are going to be holier than thou then they need to have their own houses firmly in order. This event was PPV on SkySports Box Office, it's not a small hall show. Testing should have been double layered for the main event at the very least as we are seeing that UKAD may do great testing but the frequency of it just isn't high enough.

I hope that we're in a turning point for PED's in boxing but I think the chances of that are very low.
