Well okay, since you want to do it that way. Does GGG have more title defenses than Hopkins ? No. Defending the IBO and an interim later turned Regular WBA title is not the same as defending an actual alphabet title. Hell, The Ring Magazine didn't even have GGG in their top 10 by the end of 2010 when he got the damn thing. He has 9 defenses to Hopkins's 20. Speaking of The Ring magazine, he didn't even fight anyone rated there until 2012, and that was the #10 rated Proska. After that he fought # 10 Stevens and # 6 Macklin in 2013. in 2014 he only fought #4 Gaele. in 2015 he proceeded to fight #6 Murray and #4 Lemieux. In 2016 he didn't fight anyone rated. in 2017 he beat #2 Jacobs and got a draw against Canelo. In 2018 he lost to Canelo. In 2019 he beat #4 Derevyachenko and in 2022 he beat #5 ranked Murata. And then he lost to Canelo again. That's his entire career. He doesn't even have 10 wins against top 10 rated fighters in his entire career. Even if you gift him 2 wins over Canelo he didn't officially get, that's only 11. And he literally never beat a divisional #1. Is this your ATG ?
For sure he is an ATG. 20 Titel defenses. He should have been the only WBA Champ since 2010. He won at least 2 of them
"Gennady Golovkin made his record 21st defensive of his middleweight titles Friday night, knocking down previously unbeaten Kamil Szeremeta four times before their fight was stopped after the seventh round.Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) surpassed Bernard Hopkins' division record for title defenses and" https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...a-sets-middleweight-defense-record/115187040/
So your only retort is just linking a non Boxing page, written by people who couldn't tell the difference between Marciano and Graziano, that says GGG made more defenses than Hopkins ?Shows how desperate you are. But okay fine, I'll humor you and play along. What about the rest of my points ?
https://www.boxing247.com/weblog/archives/136111 By James Slater: Unbeaten Russian star Alexander Povetkin made a successful first defence of his World Boxing Association (WBA) “regular” heavyweight strap last night in Finland, as the 32-year-old stopped tough and durable veteran Cedric Boswell in the 8th-round https://www.sportsnet.ca/more/povetkin-retains-wba-heavyweight-title/ Unbeaten Alexander Povetkin retained his WBA heavyweight belt Friday night, stopping Polish challenger Andrzej Wawrzyk in the third round for his fourth successful title defence. Just like Golovkin , Povetkin was not a real champ because WK held the full WBA and was defending it against better opponents. Half of GGGs defences were of a fake, second tier , mickey mouse belt. When he became full WBA champ , thats when the defence count begins.
Silly response the 2nd fight Canelo was the aggressor landed the harder punches, and there is a very strong argument he deserved to win it. The only bad decision was the 1st fight nothing wrong with Canelo winning fights 2 and 3. And even the 1st fight was competitive it wasn't a robbery on the same level as Whitaker/Chavez, Lewis/Holyfield, for example.
Vanes was cherry picked. Non-sanctioned bout by IBF Brook was brought up two weight classes. Non-sanctioned bout by WBA Those are two fights during his reign that the governing bodies didn't sanction.
What about the rest of my points ?[/QUOTE] Following is a tabular list of Golovkin's fights. For a list with more details — like opponent record, opponent stats, including videos, and his next fight — refer to "All of Gennady Golovkin's fights". Total Fights 45 Wins 42 Losses 2 Draws 1 No-Contests 0 KO Wins 37 Total Title Wins 3 Title Defenses 21 Title-Fight KO Wins 20 Losses via KO 0 https://www.martialbot.com/boxing/g/gennady-golovkin.html Something something ring magazine as if Ring is the sole arbiter of what is good in boxing The following GGG opponents have been rated in the Ring top ten: Geale Macklin Proksa Murray Rubio Stevens Jacobs Lemiuex Canelo Derevyanchenko Murata Szeremeta https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_Middleweight--2010s Moreover he tried to make fights with guys like Pirog*, Sturm, Pavlik, Ward, Chavez, Martinez, Cotto, Eubank, Mayweather who were also Ring top 10 material but they managed to find multifarious excuses as to why they had to wash their hair on that particular date. *Pirog had a legitimate excuse.
Lets look at some of the fighters who he has beat Ryota Murata Kamil Szermeta Sergei Derevyanchenko Steve Rolls Vanes Martirosyan Daniel Jacobs Kell Brook ( not a middleweight) Dominic Wade David Lemieux Willie Monroe Martin Murray Marco Antonio Rubio Daniel Geale Osumanu Adama Curtis Stevens Matthew Maklin Hardly a Murderer`s Row of fighters You judge fighters not on the number of wins but the quality of opponent
And what makes me laugh is that Golovkin fans are quick to bring up the Canelo fights, even though Golovkin didn't really separate himself from Canelo especially in the 2nd fight. Yet gloss over the fact that Golovkin himself won 2 close decisions vs Jacobs, Derevyanchenko, with the Derevyanchenko one being highly controversial.
I'll take the Ring Magazine as the most official source of ratings rather than Alphabet Organizations and fanmade sites, thank you very much. Also Rubio and Szeremeta were not ranked in the top 10 when they fought GGG, so he still has only 9 wins against rated fighters, and still no win over a divisional Number 1. And I can't give him credit for something he didn't do because of the other fighter's ducking of him. Sam Langford was avoided, but he was magnitudes greater than GGG.
Absolutely he's an ATG albeit not in a great era... do think he was criminally avoided in his pomp however. He is an absolute H2H monster at MW.
Unfortunatelly GGG was high risk low reward kind of opponent for a long time, a long list of fighters shameless ducked him, like: Sturm Abraham Martinez Quillin Cotto Pavlik Chavez Jr Ewbank BJS Charlo Pirog Korobov P. Williams Even Ward and Froch didnt make a real effort to make a deal at 168, when viable. IMO, he gets credit for having top boxers running from him, same as Lennox with Bowe.
^your opinion Attention! Attention! All fighters take note! If you don't time your fight with your opponent to the correct timeframe, you risk losing the prestigious "tzortzakis stamp of approval".
