Does Luis Ortiz have one more big fight in him?

Did well vs Wilder twice, arguably should have had a TKO victory in first fight.

If it wasn't for the knockdowns, he'd have won vs Ruiz with the cards being quite close. He won more rounds than Ruiz.

He's kind of like Povetkin. Skills and power still there, but easy to knockdown. Still entertaining though.

Who should King Kong call out?

 

He should retire. Big money is gone, he's just old now and set up to take a lot of CTE without the payoff. Would hate to see him get fed to someone like Jalolov for <$1m purse.

 

Has he ever had a big fight?

A couple of scraps with a renowned coward in Wilder (for a belt true, but a belt that saw less quality action than some paper belts) and a bout with a disinterested gatekeeper in Jennings is hardly a stellar career.

And it's unfair to Povetkin to compare the two - Povetkin has a solid resume and fought some solid top tier fighters... Ortiz had the chance to fight the best in the division at the time in Joshua and decided he'd rather fight for far less money against the inferior Wilder because he knew full well he had a much better chance.

Ortiz isn't even a has-been.. to be a has been, you have to have been something... Ortiz is a never-was, with a startlingly inflated reputation for how little he actually accomplished.

 

Luis Ortiz is one of the most overrated dude in division. He got one quiet good win but for some reason he always was called hw boogyman... The truth is he avoid few name on his carier:
Ustinov- for WBA regular what give him good chance to fight with WBA champion later
Joshua- he got great money offer when Miller was out
Hrgovic- for IBF mandatory- said he is injured
He done nothing in division. Only twice got koed with Wilder.
There is big chance that Wilder choose him because they know that he got problem with taking big shoots.

Now he is old, his feet dont work good and he react electric after being punched. He was already too long in top 10 for nothing.

Good boxer but done nothing.

 

Razor close fight against Ruiz, would have won if his chin was a tad sturdier. I wouldn't want to see him in the ring again, but at some point he was a force.

 

He's in his 80's . He needs to be taking up quiet sports like dominoes and lawn bowls.

 

You forgot he ducked Dillian White , several times. Takam also.

Wasted his career by not taking chances, his manager is awfull.

He is definetelly faded now, but was still competitive against Ruiz.

Parker, Dillian, Miller, Sanchez, could be interesting fights.

 

I'm in the camp he should probably call it a day, though easy to say, harder to do when a promoter comes along and offers you 6 or 7 figures for a fight.

He's looked vulnerable especially so since Charles Martin, a fight he was getting dropped and losing before catching Martin. His legs are gone and his chin is going. Plus he's been inactive for a year at his age.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing him in against the right opponent. His legs are gone and his chin looks vulnerable, but he still has some power and skills and hasn't taken a ton of damage in his career. Pointless as it would be I'd kind of like to see him fight Whyte.

 

He should be fed up to the likes of Ajagba, Makhmudov, Anderson, Hrgovic, etc...

 

His legs looked very weak against Ruiz. A slight breeze could knock him over.

 

I hope so, had him winning the Ruiz fight 113-112.

 

Comparing the Martin performances, Ortiz might just pull off the win over Anderson.

 

Right now he's totally irrelevant in regards to the landscape of the heavyweight division, yeah he's still ranked by a few of the sanctioning bodies but he's 2-2 in his last 4 fights and hasn't fought for a year so I don't see him getting moved into an eliminator for a title.

Looking at the PBC heavyweight roster we have Demirezen, Helenius, Pero, Kownacki, Arreola and Sanchez who have not already fought him. I don't think any of those fights offer him a good payday and do nothing to raise his profile, so probably best to stay inactive until PBC can build another rising heavyweight then wheel out an ancient Ortiz to pad that fighters record.
