He's as crude as it gets, makes Wilder look skilled in comparison. He has no jab, just walks in winging that over hand right over and over again. He has no inside game whatsoever, hence why after throwing the right hand he just falls in and smothers his own work and ends up in clinch. At his age he isn't going to get any better, he's just a big strong guy who can punch but that isn't unique at heavyweight. His career isn't going anywhere right now and they fear putting him with anyone better than Takam that might expose him and make him look bad like Takam did, or worse beat him. His supporters will say he's being avoided but he's not exactly making a great case for himself to be picked by one of the higher ranked heavyweights. He beat Takam but struggled, getting tagged a lot and despite all the talk of his power couldn't put the old gatekeeper away. He's now stepped back down a level in his last 2 fights and is fighting journeymen. Fighters like Joyce, Zhang, Bakole and even Hrgovic were in a similar position seen as dangerous and not worth the risk of fighting and guess what, those fighters backed themselves as did their backers and they took risky fights, Joyce vs Dubois, Bakole vs Hunter and then Yoka, Zhang vs Hrgovic and then Joyce. Why doesn't he call out other dangerous heavyweights that struggle to get big fights, the Bakole's, Dychko's, Sirenko's etc. Hardcore fans know who they are and if you win you start building some real hype which maybe deserved instead of Makhmudov who's fighting journeymen and expects to have a bigger names take notice and pick him based on his ability to KO journeymen.
I Imagine fights can't be made vs Sirenko, Dychko, etc, because there is no public interest and almost no mainstream televised fights anymore.
I don't believe that to be true. Was anyone calling for Bakole/Hunter, Sanchez/Ajagba, Zhan/Ajagba, Anderson/Martin, Hrgovic/Zhang etc. They were not big names but understood to grow your support and demand from fans to see them fight they have to take risks. They can't just keep fighting journeymen and hope a bigger name plucks them out of all the names they could fight and gives them a shot out of the blue for no reason. Boxing fans want good competitive fights, they'd much rather see Makhmudov against Bakole than him against another unknown journeymen. These fights can be made if the fighters are willing and their promoters are willing. But if the promoter doesn't believe in them then they'll protect them. Top Rank took a risk putting Takam in with Makhmudov and instead of shining Makhmudov underwhelmed and so now they will likely keep feeding him journeymen and hoping an opportunity arises so they can cash him out.
He's not great but I wouldn't mind seeing him in some meaningful fights. Ajagba would make a lot of sense but if Efe has a solid chin I'd actually favor him and he's not great himself.
Give the guy a shot. Other lesser fighters are getting shots so why not Big Mak? Can you imagine what he would have done to Daniel Dubois? He would have killed him if not make him quit outright.... If he's awful then he will get exposed. I have a feeling that he would win any fight but in the ugliest way possible and that turns off promoters.
Excellent summary, the man is avoided. Granted not the most skilled for sure but they all avoid him for some reason…
