“I think I have the best qualities to beat him, because I’m fast enough for heavyweight, I can throw a lot of punches. With Zhang, on my bad night, I throw like, nearly 800 punches. It’s a lot for a heavyweight,” Hrgovic said. “So, I’m fast enough, and I have a good chin – he can’t knock me out. And I’m a big puncher, you know. So, [yes] I think I have enough, as [far as] stamina to throw a lot of punches, because you just need to push him back and make him in trouble. When you see [Daniel] Dubois, when he let his hands go, he gave him trouble. A big guy, throwing punches, throwing right hands and left hooks – Usyk don’t like that. And you need to go to the body (against Usyk) and I go to the body. I think I’m a good body puncher.”

Usyk “can’t go into war with the big guys,” Hrgovic insists, pointing out how Joshua didn’t push Usyk back and explaining how Dubois didn’t throw enough punches. Hrgovic says he will bully Usyk and he will throw enough punches. But, as Mike Tyson famously said, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” Usyk may not be a big guy or an especially big puncher, but he can hurt you, he can discourage you, and Usyk can take you out of your game-plan. Chances are pretty good, it will be Usyk-Hrgovic next, as Usyk wants to keep hold of his belts. Can Hrgovic win the fight and, perhaps more importantly as far as Usyk’s manager is concerned, can Hrgovic sell the fight?

I don't see anyone troubling Usyk in the division apart from a focused, prepared and in shape Ruiz.

Hrgovic was dead on his feet after 7-8 rounds against Zhang, he was absolutely ****ing knackered, it didn't look that bad because Zhang was even more tired.

Hrgovic should not have won that fight against Zhang. Zhang is way more deserving of a shot at Usyk. In fact, apart from his disappointing performance against Forest, his wins against Joyce and Hrgovic means he has some of the better wins at HW. Wilder certainly hasn't beaten anyone as good as these two

I think wilder can beat him (even if its unlikely of course) and Fury can, if he is focussed, in shape and finds his balls.

Hrgovic was so very slow against the Aussie bloke. And show poor conditioning. And eventually resorted to constant rabbit punches.

On that performance it's an easy peasy win for Usyk.

Hes got a point I do think Usyk is a bit overrated at Heavyweight, but I'm not sure Hrgovic is the man to do it. But maybe hes grown in confidence seeing Usyk/Dubois controversy, and thinks with his size and power if he goes to the body hes got a good chance.

But saying all that talk is cheap and Hrgovic has looked flat recently, and hes going to have to improve significantly as hes looked disinterested in boxing as of late.

Zhang is 50 years old and gasses after 6-7 rounds.

Zhang has aged like fine wine. He slows down towards the end of the fight but does not gas out.

Yeah based on some people on here everyone is a bum, and if they go to the ring they will be better ....

Hrgovic is a top 5 fighter. Zhang was a great win, and people forget that Hrgovic lost his father prior to that fight, and he was not mentally fit.

39+ Zhang producing his best career performances is inconvenient for him because he likes to pretend that P4P No.9 Lewis was shot at 37 when he fought Vitali, despite Lewis wanting another 3+ fights prior to that fight and that P4P No.2 Wlad was shot at 39 when he fought Fury, despite going life and death with Joshua 17 months later.

Prime is a nebulous concept in boxing but part of the reason why Zhang performed so well against Hrgovic and Joyce was likely his advanced age (underestimation, experience) and the Forrest fight (further underestimation and experience: getting through the fight for a draw in that state after 4 rounds was very impressive and it must have increased Zhang's focus and sense of urgency going forward).
