Good thing I didn't say otherwise. I said it was lightyears from the best version of him...and that it's still a highly creditable win. Those aren't mutually exclusive statements.

Roberto Duran was 100% for Leonard , Joe Frazier was 100% for Ali, shall I go on?

Maybe Hopkins. Toney was already a complete fighter in 94.

Bad comparison, Toney was weight drained.Ray was fit and motivated in Duran I, he just fought the wrong fight tactically (or Duran made him fight his fight depending on how you look at it). Big difference there.

A more fitting comparison is the Duran - Leonard II fight, where Duran was not in top shape.

Coming back to lt hvy to regain the belts he dropped by beating Tarver was a good accomplishment too. The second fight was the start of his demise but pulling a Lewis n not rematching Tarver definitely would've helped his legacy more.

Love both but Roy came in and had one of his greatest performances. Even if Toney was in better shape I just don't see what he had to negate Roy that night. Too much speed n unpredictability.

I didn't compare anything in there. I judge Duran beating Leonard in Montreal as a "better win" for whatever is worth, I do think it's a naive way to judge fighters though since we don't really know, we were not there, and most here never fought... maybe it was easier for Duran that night than it was for Frazier against Ali or so many other fighters, I don't really know.... a lot of things should be considered to say such a thing and there is no way we can do that just looking at videos.
You know what I mean ?

Toney was weight drained..... okay, maybe he was, maybe so many others were and we don't even know...
LaMotta was weight drained in several of his fights, but whatever. It can become circular reasoning and silly, these debates, and I don't even wanna keep arguing that since my point was very clear. It seems like some excuses are made for some and not for others, depending on who you like.

It's considered one Roy's top 3 wins along Hopkins and Ruiz.

That fight showed just how good Roy was, not much about James, but more about Roy. James is a good fighter borderline great, but to me he never went over that line. Roy did.

Oh to me James Toney is a great Aall Time Great, can't see otherwise.
One of the most skilled fighters ever, IMO.
Let's remember that Toney was a middleweight that went to HW and beat HWs !! Oh Holyfield was done when he faced him, sure.... still, he was facing HWs. And a guy like Jirov would be a HW fighter back in the day.
James Toney had almost 100 fights and was never koed even fighting from MW to HW. People do, rightly so, rate Mickey Walker high because he went to fight HWs. Why not James ?

Hearns had also broken his hand and recovered before the Hagler fight.
