Peter McNeeley showed he has heart. He may have lacked a lot, but his heart in the ring was not. I even think the importance of the event affected him; strange behavior.

Look how he rushed Tyson after the gong.

 

Father like son, as Peters father Tom tried to catch Patterson cold when he fought for the title in 1961.

 

Given how many quality world class fighter were afraid of Tyson I have always been impressed Peter McNeeley of all people of all people wasn’t intimidated at all. Didn’t help and he had no chance but kinda cool.

 

He was a bum and so was his dad.

 

Peter was just crazy lol

 

That kinda why I find it impressive

 

I can't think of many other figures in sports who would have put the fear into people, like a still under 30 Mike Tyson released after a 3 year prison stint probably fulminating with rage over what happened.

 

A couple of things here. First, Tyson and Bowe both ducked Lewis, and Foreman ducked everyone once he won the title. So it was not something unknown to the 90's.

Second, Joshua has shown a willingness to fight anyone, which is a credit to him whatever else you can say about the man. So he shouldn't be lumped in with Wilder and Fury. Joshua and Usyk is a credit to boxing in their willingness to prove themselves against the best.

 

The way he followed McNeely with his eyes in the staredown is full out terrifying.

 

I felt like Peter was looking good against Tyson..right up untill the beginning bell anyway

 

Of course he fought him. McNeely was a tomato can and would never have another opportunity to make that kind of money. Most top boxers aren't necessarily scared of other fighters, moreso what a loss will do for their earnings/ranking. It would be the equivalent of offering a guy like Simon Kean a few million to fight AJ/Fury/Usyk, of course he would jump on it.

 

I love 90s hvy boxing but those days r over. No one is forcing anyone here(to my knowledge) to watch modern hvy boxing if they don't want to. Credit for McNeely for getting in there w Mike but we can give him credit without disrespecting modern hvy champs n contenders. Worse case scenario just binge watch 90s hvy boxing on YouTube and even better break down those fights here w/out focusing on whoever nowadays.

 

Same logic I used can apply to ppl whining over any era they love being over. I hope they enjoyed it then or can live vicariously thru those that have but just watch what's available now. And I'm begging for more breakdowns I love when ppl do those lol.

 

Before you go spouting off about the courage of pro boxers go look in the mirror and tell me what do you see? Look back on your life while you’re there and give me a reason you think you have that right.

Boxing is a business if the money was good and the opportunity makes sense anyone will fight anyone - boxers listen to there managers. If you offered me the money McNeely got I’d fight both Klitschko brothers on the same night.
