I remember Hearn saying " you can't expect Chisora or Whyte to fight for 400 grand " ... Why not? What else are they gonna do ?
The younger generation don't drink as much, so the 20 year olds who were watching Hatton, Brook etc are now 30's with mortagates and houses, going boxing, let's say £70 a ticket minimum, transport, then say 8 pints at £8 each, is a fair whack and if a stadium fight, you'd get a far better view on tV
Spot on mate. Between 2016-19 I used to go to a live show every month pretty much. A few years ago I can remember doing 3 trips to London from Yorkshire in as many months for Loma/Campbell, Taylor/Prograis and a Dubois fight at the Copper box. Weekend job for all 3, beer all day and night, train, hotel etc. Now I’m 30 with a mortgage and missus I can’t justify even one of those trips. Younger lads these days just sit in kitchens getting off their box.
I hadn't thought about it that way. I would add to this that promoters do seem to overestimate the size of some fights, if we go off the venue choice and assume there is no double booking stopping the from going somewhere smaller. I'm looking at Buatsi vs Azeez, surely that has no chance of filling even half of the O2? Does anyone know if there is a vast difference in fees to book the smaller venues compared to the bigger ones? The logistics behind it must be a pain for all the promoters putting on shows.
I live in Edinburgh so very rarely get to big shows. Travelled down to the Eubank fight a couple of weeks ago. Great atmosphere and really enjoyed it. As somebody mentioned earlier though, the ticket fees take the p*ss. Bought 2 x £80 tickets and they ended up being £94 with fees. Just E-tickets, not even anything to post out. I was looking at going to the Meadowbank last month to watch Lee McGregor but the cheapest tickets were like £50. Why? You could see on tv there were loads of empty seats. That’s just too much for a low level show like that.
Basically not fight. What you would get is fighters simply taking risk free fights to get into mandatory positions and then banking on becoming a champion to earn more.
We get it mate .. you absolutely hate Eddie Hearn/Matchroom with a strong passion. But do you have to let us know this in every single post you make!!! Jesus christ you are obsessed.
