To say that i am profoundly disappointed would be an understatement. Here in Canada no one cares about boxing. I have an English friend who likes it but its hard to find locals to care about it. One of the reasons are the shannigans that people like Mayweather, Canelo and now Fury have pulled. UFC puts out 5-6 quality main events per year. Boxing rarely does. Fury is highly marketable in that he is English speaking, British, and skilled and entertaining. He could promote the hell out of this fight. When was the last time you saw a boxer who was part of the mainstream culture? If Fury and Usyk were to fight, even my friends who are neutral on boxing would be intrigued. But boxers are more busy aging their opponents out (Mayweather vs Pac, Canelo vs GGG) than fighting the best. Fury is hurting heavyweight boxing. And boxing is living off its past reputation. Modern boxers are living off what SRR, Ali, Duran, Hagler, Louis etc. built through hard work and dedication. I used to think Fury-Usyk was a 60-40 fight in favour of Fury. Now i have changed my mind. Fury does not want this challenge. What a shame. The Eastern European and Central Asian heavyweights are amazing fighters but not marketable. The Westerners like Fury are marketable but don't actually want those fights. Fury-Usyk could bring back so much credibility to boxing; instead, we are stuck with a freakshow.
Yea, some of the things he says here can be inFURYating, telling fighters to spend 10 years chasing him and get in line. He's already 35 for ****s sake, just fight the best and retire with real champ courage knowing you fought the best. It will eat at you later on if you don't. I think you can't really take anything 100% seriously with him though as he loves to BS. You know he's trying to get a rise out of, and clown people. Like when he said that Ngannou is in too good a shape to beat him. A muscular man would never beat a fat man, lol. I know where he's coming from as too much muscle is bad but so is too much flab & inactivity, especially when you get older.
Why were fans expecting that Fury will fight Usyk in the first place ? Usyk will not have it his way. His luck was ended by the time Fury beat Wilder.
Oh, man. I'm really sorry to hear that. My prayers are with you in this trying time, for you and your family.
Usyk is now undisputed HW champion. There is no misunderstanding anymore. Fury can claim the Netflix belt and move on from the world scene.
That's what I suspect as well and he's just milking his status to make as much money as he can before he does officially retire. The combination of all the damage he took in the Wilder fights, his elbow surgeries, the waning ambition after achieving the popularity he has and all the money he has earned, has likely killed any real desire he once had.
If Fury's career purses weren't so high the WBC and their 3% fee wouldn't be so high either and they would have stripped him. They're making $1.2m from the Ngannou fight alone. Why strip Fury?
He ducks Usyk IMHO. Shame on him. We want the mega fight now! And give us AJ-Wilder on the undercard.
So when did he have this ambition to prove that he's the best? When ducking Price? When ducking Joshua and facing Wilder instead? The only one he's faced among the best Brit HWs of his generation, who wasn't a mandatory, is Chisora, when Price, Joyce and AJ all were bigger challenges. The one time he didn't take the easy option is when facing Wlad, but that was when Wlad was about to turn 40. Apart from that the easier option has been a consistent theme for his whole career. Two fights with Chisora was the easy way to get a title shot, and after letting go of his titles Wilder was the easiest options to get one back. This isn't not just a one off, but has been the consistent theme for his career. Wlad is the exception, but I don't know if Wilder was an option at that point so maybe he was forced to go that route.
