Which of these 3 heavyweights had the more one-punch KO power?

Who had the more one-punch KO power in their prime?
Also, how did all three of them hit harder than their opponents who were heavier, taller and bigger than them, despite weighing around 100kg?

 

Wilder doesn't belong in this company.

Mike and Earnie could knock out A-grade fighters with solid chins - Wilders career is almost exclusively knocking out bums... the best chin he's hit was Fury's, and even then Fury has been knocked down by guys who weren't known as murderous punchers.

 

Sorry to drop in on you on another thread relating to Wilder Bubbles, me old mucker, I like the points you make. I would counter though that I never saw Tyson leave guys with B grade chins twitching on the floor the way Wilder did with Liakhovic for example

 

What grade A fighters with solid chins did Shavers stop ? Ken Norton and Jimmy Ellis are his best wins, Norton was past his best and didn't fare well against punchers.

Shavers has other feats like knocking down Larry Holmes, but failed to finish him off kinda like Wilder vs Fury.

Fury also outweighs Wilder by atleast 40 pounds and is 2nd biggest Heavyweight champion in history regarding size.

As for the thread I think Mike Tyson has the best power regarding combination punching and hitting hard with either hand.

Wilder and Shavers are close but Wilder has been knocking out fighters heavier than him, so maybe Wilder gets the edge although his competition hasn't been great.

 

I think Tyson had that freakish power because of his rather unusual genetics, added to his dynamic movement meaning he could connect from some crazy angles and very unexpectedly. Most of his KO'ed opponents didn't even see the punch coming. The Spinks KO for example was literally like turning off a light switch.

Wilder tends to swing for the fences, he occasionally lands a beautiful, short and direct RH like he did against Breazeale and Helenius, but they got up just after the 10 count, inspite being hit right on the button. Frazier Jnr. was another example of Tyson knocking someone into another dimension.

I would argue that L.Lewis, Tommy Morrison, Razor Ruddock, Ray Mercer, David Tua, Shannon Briggs, Foreman and Vlad Klitschko all had brain scrambling power if they connected with their best shot and I'd argue in some instances, their opposition was far more durable than Wilder's for example.

The other aspect of this, in my view, is that when you're fighting guys who are much easier to hit and much less punishing if you miss, then you can afford to swing more wildly, put more weight behind shots (which can be harder to rebalance from) etc... so aside from chins being poor, there's also the fact that Wilders crap opposition largely meaning he can hit closer to this theoretical/punchmachine maximum than guys fighting better opponents.

There's no doubt he's no pillowfist, I just think it's laughable to put him in the ATG power comparisons.

 

Tyson for me. So explosive. The commentator said his punches even sounded different, and I agree.

Wilder clearly has power but given who he has fought, hard to really know.

Tyson's the only fighter to register multiple one shot knockouts and do so against quality competition. Wilder has a couple of his own but generally against limited guys or guys known for having bad defence and/or chins.

Shavers never one shot KOed anyone in his career, so he's last.

 

Shavers never knocked out an A-grade fighter with a solid chin. Norton didn't exactly have the best chin.

 

Tyson left world class boxers on the floor. Wilder left not so world class fighters on the floor. Both with one punch. Shavers flooored a couple of world class fighters who not only got up but won. Holmes and Lyle. Tyson is number one. The other 2 a tossup but I’ll go with Wilder for one punch as he left his opponents unconscious usually. Shavers mostly took more than one punch.

 

That's a fair point, although a lot of Tyson's early opponents were complete no hopers too and he never left them in the kind of state Wilder did. I'd also add Tyson's delivery system was one of the greatest of all time, his accuracy could be frightening, which compensates for Wilders... Well, wildness, in throwing full power shots. I think if Tyson is in the ATG power department, Wilder should be too

Interestingly enough, Tyson himself said his KOs weren’t about power and he didn’t consider himself a big puncher. He said it was about his speed and agility and had nothing to do with power. Make of that what you will.

 

I think its Wilder since he has little else. He isnt a good boxer and should be some journeyman at best but he has that julian jackson type freakish power that when it lands, it freezes guys.

 

Wilder without a doubt, with his 96 kilograms in the first fight with Fury, he managed to knock down the twenty-kilogram heavier Fury, who barely managed to get up, neither Iron Mike nor Shavers had knocked down such big and heavy opponents...

 

Tyson loved to downplay himself. He had legit big time power though, make no mistake about it.

What was scariest about Tyson was that all the above was also true. He was incredibly fast, agile, accurate, and had great technique... and could also hit like the clappers.
