Canelo has already surpassed Cotto, Mosley, and GGG. In order to surpass Mayweather, he will have to soundly defeat two out of this trio of Bivol, Benavidez, and Beterbiev. In other words, it is unlikely that he will surpass his daddy, Floyd. He learned a lot from Floyd starting with judges on the take, onerous conditions on opponents, catchweight, PEDs up to the gills and he has outdone his daddy, in having the WBC in his pocket. Canelo runs his boxing operation like a business, just like a Mexican cartel so don't expect any professionalism or honor.

Greater things then Fury will. What will Fury be remember for? Floundering his opportunity to be great in a weak as hell HW era? Running away from a boxer he calls a MW? Or is it beating an Old Wlad and one hit wonder in Wilder? No, I got it. For his terrible reality TV show. That's it!

IMO surpassed GGG after he beat him in their second fight, and surpassed Mosley and Cotto after his 168 undisputed run.

Canelo will never pass Mayweather unless he beats Bivol, Beterbiev and possibly winning a belt at Cruiserweight. Canelo had been surpassed GGG, he was greater than him before and after their 2 fights. He's greater than Mosley due to success in more weight classes, Mosley was only ever good at 135 and 147, got a robbery vs Oscar at 154 and lost badly to Wright. He passed Cotto too I feel around the time he beat Callum Smith.

In terms of challenging himself, he's already surpassed Mayweather. Mayweather is taller than canelo with longer arms but would've never had the balls to fight a 6 foot boxer p4p at the higher weights. Instead almost all the people he fought were midgets with shorter arms. Like nate Diaz said to McGregor "you fight midgets"

That's a crazy tall order to surpass Floyd. It's a shame it takes fights so long to get made these days. Not only is Mayweather a better boxer (proven in ring) his resume is just as good. Has Canelo been an underdog? Because numbers wise you really can't count out the horrible scorecards given in his favor. Also, Mayweather has the underdog win over Chico when the betters were saying Chico was going to KO Floyd easy (ring mag pre fight)

He's already greater than the rest of them, IMO. Cotto is really good though, I think they'll be in diff entries though if Cotto is really done.

Yeah, you don't surpass GGG when while in your prime you clearly lost to a 35 year old version, which is old at MW/SMW, and arguably lost to an even older version in the rematch.

By 35, Groves and Degale were already long retired. BJS done. And many more. MW/SMW are not HW, they are still reflex-based divisions.
And that's why Canelo was so desperate to age Golovkin, just like BJS did before him, but at least BJS was completely up front about it.

I think it all depends on what impresses you. Canelo had a pretty good little run at 154lbs beat some mediocre guys, then lost to Trout then Mayweather in consecutive losses. Then started fighting at Canelo weight 155lbs then beat fringe contenders Angulo, And kirkland, won controversially vs Lara, then won close vs Cotto got the Ring mag middleweight title, then won a 154lbs title vs Smith. Took Peds and jumped up to 164lbs looking uncommonly lean and muscular vs a dehydrated shot Chavez jr. Fought the unified dominant middleweight champion Golovkin for his title, lost his Ring mag title. Rematched GGG again, lost again in a legedary battle. Rebounded to move to 168lbs, won vs Fielding, Then won the middleweight title vs Jacobs on points. Jumped to 175lbs won a title vs Kovalev, dropped back down beat Ring mag 168lbs champ Smith, then unified vs Saunders, and Plant. Lost to Bivol for another 175lbs belt, then dropped down defended vs Golovkin who was now 40 yrs old and won a competitive decision over him finally. Defended vs tough contender Ryder. As fo Golovkin, he tied Hopkins middleweight title defense record of 20, (18) by ko. Defeated Canelo twice in title defenses. If the right guy got the decisions in their fights then Golovkin would have more consecutive title defenses vs Canelo in fight 2, Derevyanchenko, Szeremeta, and Murata therefore surpassing Hopkins record by 4 defenses. So, it all depends on what you think is more impressive.

I don’t see how he’s surpassed Golovkin since he lost pretty clearly a couple times to him even after desperately trying to age him out. Even in the 3rd fight he was fading fast and starting to get worked over.
