Louis ragdolled Abe Simon around the ring with his punches. All 250 pounds of him. He destroyed prime fighters. Rocky is slightly better than 38 year old Walcott and 33 year old Charles. Louis will time him coming in like he did in their actual fight, except this time there will be power and explosiveness behind those punches. There is no human being who can just walk through that type of impact, and Rocky is no different.
Rocky could take Joe's punch, but could Joe take Rocky's punch? Keep in mind Rocky also could hit. Both would be right in front of each other. People mention Moore and Walcott knocking Rocky down, but lesser men than Rocky put Louis down also.
Maurielo put Louis down? When? Two Ton was 240 lbs. A bit of different kind of impact than the 185 lbs Rocky.
The men who put Louis down were certainly not lesser than Rocky. Walcott was 194 lbs. Baer was 237 lbs. Galento was 234 lbs. Schmeling was 192 lbs. Braddock was 197 lbs. All these guys were heavier than Rocky. Marciano on the other hand did get put down by men lesser than Louis and any of the men who floored Louis. Moore was 188 lbs and Walcott 196 lbs. Walcott was bigger than the 1948-9 version who floored Louis but he was 38 years old for the Rocky bout and he was beating rocky worse than he ever managed to beat Louis. I can't think of a single 35+ year old who floored Louis. I can't think of a single 35+ year old who outboxed Louis. I can't think of a single 35+ year old who went more than 6 rounds with Louis. Ponder on that and get back to me about the "lesser men" who floored Louis.
Abe Simon is just the kind of jab&grab physical giant who could give Rocky a lot of trouble. It took prime Louis 13 rounds and 4 knockdowns to put him away. Simon did not feel pain by his own admission. The best thing going for Rocky was that Lem Franklin knocked out Abe in 4. So why wouldn't Rocky be able to? Of course we have never seen Rocky fight someone that big and his mauling style might get him underneath Simon where that fantastic endurance is going to get sapped away at a rapid pace beneath 250 pounds.
