All this "clean boxing" rhetoric coming out of Marchroom is hilarious. "we do more testing than anyone". Well that's great, I'm happy for you, and what are you going to do when one of your fighters fails a test? Leave it up to the press to leak the news, fight the BBofBC tooth and nail and get your fighter in the ring regardless of public opinion, because he's your mate? You really can't write this stuff.
Just seen that instagram photo from Hearn and it’s proper riled me. Absolute scum. Hearn knows full well that Benn’s a drug cheat, but he’s fully on board because of the pound notes. Don’t know how he sleeps at night (well apart from being laid next to Skye). But no doubt if something bad happens on one of his shows he’ll be on the media rounds with his fake tears again. The man has no shame.
Isn't that what the hearing was for? Nobody was privy to that hearing and what his explanation was. If the appeal is successful then I'll have no problem saying he shouldn't be fighting but as of now his not suspended so is doing nothing wrong in fighting.
Probabilities suggest guilt no but honestly I'm not sure. I have a hard time believing he would spend so much money fighting this without any kind of defence. It's a lot of money to spend with no guarantee he would win. Does that make him innocent? No it doesn't but I'm not sure his guilty of intentionally juicing either.
Michael Jackson paid a €25m out of court settlement when he was been accused of touching kids. Doesn’t mean he’s innocent because he was willing to spend so much. Money protects the guilty.
Sneaking him onto a small show at late notice in Florida is like Man Utd loaning Mason Greenwood out and hoping the backlash has died down for when they potentially put him back in their squad further down the line.
I have no axe to grind with Benn on an individual level. I am not at all happy that he will be boxing with such a cloud over his head. It's bad for boxing. The half truths and misleading comments he and his representatives have come out with in recent months have, if anything, strengthened my concern that he has played the system. The only vaguely sympathetic statements were by Rene Carayol on Talksport a few months back, but that direction seems to have been replaced with the previous charmless form. Is he guilty? I know what I suspect, but ultimately my (and other fans') opinion doesn't matter, we don't know all the facts. His case needs to be reviewed by the competent bodies. Until such a body (i.e. the Board, UKAD) outright clear him to box, whether accepting contamination or after serving a ban, I have no interest in his career. This won't change until he eventually stands up for himself and defends his case. To anyone similarly disappointed: don't watch this weekend. Don't watch highlights, previews or reviews on YouTube etc to inflate their view counts (views = ad revenue = "engagement metrics" = Conor Benn justifying a higher purse next time). Just ignore it. Do whatever possible to demonstrate that Conor Benn is not welcome in the boxing ring until he's proven he belongs there.
