    Going by the OPs criterion of being bigger than boxing and not about who the best heavyweights are, it's a pretty limited group. Sullivan, Dempsey, Louis, Ali, Tyson and Fury are about it as far as those who really transcended the sport.

    I'd eliminate Sullivan and Fury and go with Dempsey, Louis, Ali and Tyson

    Much as you may dislike the man irrespective of his current level of achievement, Fury has very clearly exhibited a new meta in physical performance benchmarks for large superheavyweights which puts him on a pedestal.
