Wouldnt be a shock. Most bodies like this controlled by old white men have inclusivity issues. 14 directors all men and 13 are white. Not a shock at all
Interesting snippet, probably worth a watch. If I remember correctly Ian John Lewis was providing the boxing world with screw up after screw up dating back to the Vitali v Briggs fight, numerous inept UK stoppages and then finally the dodgy as hell Taylor v Catterall scorecard.
I don’t see how that is a positive. Haye and Khan have been big, big names in British Boxing in the last 15 years and like him or not Fury is the biggest name in the sport. They haven’t fallen out with any other promoters. Just because you think George Groves, who has a reputation for being a knob btw, is ‘alright’ hardly makes the other 3 boxers stated opinions not valid.
The only reason they got in touch with Matchroom was TV. Froch wasn’t boxing on TV at all (the same with Darren Barker) and the other 2 had just been taken to Boxnation who no one knew about at the time.
I think Matchroom stopped being the place to go when they left Sky hence why a fair few of their boxers have left to go back and box on there.
The pack of Matchroom Cards nearly all jokers nowadays Bob and has been for a while. The move to DAZN UK has been a disaster for Matchroom and the cards are now firmly out of sight and out of mind with the vast majority of boxing viewers watching the boxing on Sky Sports, BT Sports and Channel 5. Only a few mugs like me subscribed to DAZN UK for the £99 annual subscription but never again after being fleeced with a crap schedule when promised 'unprecedented value'. I am so disinterested in the Matchroom Card tonight that I won't even bother watching it tomorrow or during the week. All Hearn does is spin and tell lies, rinse and repeat, then reel in more mugs. The problem in the UK is that there is a relatively small cohort of viewers for DAZN UK and when the diehards have had enough, it is game over. Even rich Russians will say enough is enough losing a fortune year after year. Absolutely zero chance of DAZN UK turning a profit.
Add in Josh Taylor, Frampton, Eubank, Shane McGuigan, Joe Gallagher, Natasha Jonas to that list. Most on that list have put up with Hearn over the years because it was the only way they could get on Sky but now he’s elsewhere there’s no need to bother with him. Since his move to America you rarely get any American journalists saying anything positive about him. In fact most actively dislike him and mock him on twitter. Doesn’t help when he starts calling out the likes of Andre Ward and Oscar De La Hoya making out he knows more about boxing and is a bigger name than them.
This content is protected ‘This could ****ing end the board’ he says whilst looking smug. Yeah brilliant Eddie. Let’s just have no board (that board you’ve openly admitted are the best when it comes to the healthy and safety of fighters on fight night) all because they dared to oppose Conor Benn fighting on steroids. Edit - state of that clown doing the interview. ‘Edwardinho, I’m sick of this subject so much’.
Eddie wants to be very careful what he wishes for. If this does end in a reform of the BBoC we might end up with an organisation that is actually fit for purpose and batters Hearn and his little band of merry men into dust.
You don't find it bizarre the board didn't communicate correctly with the ABC when the ABC wanted the board to clear up some questions they had in regard to allowing Benn to fight in the US. Robert Smith couldn't get on talksport quick enough to discuss Benn fighting in the US. However in regard to the serious allegations made by the C4 program Robert Smith has no comment lol.
Spot on. It's such a massive misjudgement and they've compounded their error repeatedly by the tone deaf stuff which has come out of Team Benn and Matchroom alike. I think Hearn may have let his past success get to his head and he's overestimated his capacity to control the news cycle. I can't think of any other reason why a hitherto astute operator would shoot himself, his company and his broadcast partner in the foot, repeatedly. That latest Boxing Social interview is like watching a car crash.
