Prime Leonard was dumb and fought like it, and admitted it. Floyd wouldn't get shook, hell Duran could barely speak English. Like Floyd would be bothered. Look what Dejesus, Benitez, SRL (rematch) did to him. Like Floyd is going to go in there and brawl with Duran. He's smarter than that
Duran by KO. Floyd was having a mighty difficult time with Maidana. Floyd's kryptonite is Duran. Floyd would not be given the space and time to counter. The fight would be in close quarters, Floyd's brittle hands would not dissuade Duran at all. One thing is for certain, Floyd would rather join the nuns instead of ever getting into a ring with Duran.
Agreed. I mean if Jose Louis Castillo (Good fighter but NOT Duran) could beat floyd in their first fight, Duran can too. Roberto was stronger, more skilled and hit harder.
Floyd had a torn rotator cuff, this is well known. Also - he was 2-0 vs Castillo. Castillo beat better LWs than Duran did - fact, especially if we're countiing Floyd here.
Mayweather has his moments, and wins a few rounds. Duran has more moments and wins more rounds. Duran (pre New Orleans) wins a competitive but clear UD.
Who on God's green earth did Castillo beat that was better than Ken Buchanan and Esteban De Jesus ? Vilomar Fernandez even had a win against a prime Alexis Arguello for crying out loud. Guts Ishimatsu beat Ken Buchanan and the excellent Rodolfo Gonzalez. You don't know what you're talking about if you actually believe that Castillo beat better names than Duran.
Castillo has Mayweather JR if people want to score it for him, Casamayor who everyone avoided, Corrales, Stevie Johnston 2X, stomped on Bazan, Lazcano etc etc.
The problem with prime vs. prime is that Duran's prime was at 135. Other than his iconic win over Leonard in their first bout he lost every other fight at 147 or above against an all-time great and almost every fight against a Hall of Famer. If we want to say the Duran from Leonard 1 then there is a good chance Roberto wins. However, even at that, PBF would not fall into the same trap as a young Ray by trying to prove his machismo. Any other 147 pound version of Roberto loses to Pretty Boy but if we use the Leonard 1 version I will go with Duran because Floyd has a great ring IQ and fast hands but his foot speed is lacking just a bit. He would have a hard time keeping Roberto off of him.
Castillo vs Mayweather 1 was a pick em, it's ok for it to be socred either way, but the official win is for Floyd, it was by no means a robbery, and Floyd clearly won the rematch. Casamayor's only worthy wins are against Corrales, who was nowhere near Arguello's level. The likes of Katsidis and Santa Cruz would have lost to just about anyone Duran defended against at Lightweight, and even to guys he faced in non title bouts as warm ups. Casamayor wasn't even superior to Fernandez, who let me repeat, beat a prime Alexis Arguello. And beating Angel Manfredy, who never beat anyone, does not make Stevie Johnson a superior win to Esteban De Jesus. His only other worthy wins are Bazan and Lazcano. In the former's case, his only worthy win is Johnson himself, and nobody else. Ridiculous. Lazcano is only a bit better, his only other worthy win aside from Johnson is against Vasquez. Just these 2. De Jesus didn't just beat Duran, but also Viruet, Lampkin, Fraser and Ishimatsu. All of them were top contenders and one was even a legitimate Champion who didn't need alphabet belts to gain the title. And if you actually believe that beating Bazan and Lazcano is better than winning against Laguna and Hernandez like Buchanan did, then there is no need to discuss this any further. You clearly don't know that much about Duran's opposition during his Lightweight reign. If you don't bring up any other points, then I won't bother responding.
This is my thinking exactly. But, Leonard fought to Duran's strengths in the 1st fight. When Leonard boxed smart, Duran quit. I don't see Duran getting into Maywether's head. Mayweather will box smart. Does he win? Too close to call in my opinion. Both guys firing on all cylinders at their peak? If they fought 10 times, it could end up 5-5.
Just stop! Floyd beat Castillo over 12 in a close decision then beat him again over 12 in the rematch. He then defended his title a whopping 2 times at 135 over nobodies before beating a glorified club fighter Gatti at 140 before taking the 147 title from Zab Judah. Castillo, Gatti and Judah, not exactly a murderers row is it? Duran beat an ATG to win the title stopping Buchanan, then he began the reign of terror with 11 title defenses. Castillo beat who? Duran moved up to 140 and thrashed Carlos Palamino before administering a beating to one of the top 3 all time pound for pound welters in history. Pink Floyd wouldn't fight a prime Duran without a hammer.
