Joyce and Price were two highly rated upcoming British Heavyweight contenders, who both got upset by a veteran Southpaw and then also lost the rematch. I can't help but think these two are very similar circumstances, different type of weaknesses shown but still very similar.
Better in regards to having a better chin and a better gas tank yes, but Price had better boxing skills and was a much bigger puncher. They were also both 15-0 when they lost their 1st fight.
No.doubt but at the time Price was still a highly rated beast and favourite vs a guy regarded as a washed but dangerous.south paw. He put up a much better display than Joyce in the return btw.
Mirrors Helenius/Kownacki as well. Helenius was like a 10-1 dog when he slept Kownacki in the first fight. Kownacki like Joyce had a style that centered upon marching his opponents down while blocking punches with his face before eventually overwhelming them. It caught up to both of them. Joyce will end up like Kownacki if he doesn't make serious changes in the gym, even then at 38 it's probably too late for that.
What do Price and Big Bang have in common? They were both stopped by Roberto Cammarelle in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing Price in the semifinal and Big Bang in the final This content is protected This content is protected Big Bang whilst still huge back then looks a lot bigger now though
Yeah it is. Olympic gold, silver and bronze 2 x world amateur gold, 2 x bronze 3 x European silver And it should read 2 x Olympic gold because he beat AJ in 2012 in my opinion and the opinion of many others and his defeat to AJ in the World Amateur championships was razor-close and controversial too. He was probably past his best by then too And then look at who he fought. He fought everyone. He has 209 documented amateur bouts on Boxrec and they usually only have partial records on there so he likely had significantly more than that amount He said one of the reasons he never turned pro was because he would've had to move to another country to do so "When I started boxing, Mike Tyson was the best-paid athlete in the world at the time," said Cammarelle. "That was my model in becoming a professional, but then after a while, I became more and more attracted by the world of the Olympics. "When I won the medal in 2008 at the Olympics, I was 28-years-old, and at that point, becoming a professional in Italy was not really worth it, from an economic standpoint. "I would have had to move to another country, either Germany or the US, and I just didn't feel like it."
I can't see Joyce improving much now. His current level is definitely good enough to win some fights for good money. He is not at the elite level though.
Joyce and Price were both, at a time, the Chosen Ones by this forum, lol. Heck Hughie “He’s Only Young” Fury was also once a favorite here. If we’ve learned anything, when this forum chooses a heavyweight horse, bet on the other horse. Heavily.
