Filip Hrgovic is Underrated - He Took Zhang's Best Punches And Still Won

Still think Zhang was robbed, and Hrgovic looked awful in his last fight too. Frustrating because we know he can be a lot better than that

EDIT: the Zhang fight does show he's got an absolutely freakish chin though

Off course Hrgovic is underrated.

Its funny because ppl got great preview material in Filip vs Zhang fight but 85% of them dont understand it properly.
They think Filip sucks or was awful not Zhang being soo good opponent.
That's why ppl think Joyce win easily and even in reematch stil trying force shi... about loss only because of eye injury (that's bull****).

I always voted for Hrgovic from that "new generation" and Im happy that end of the day I was right this time. He is last man standing here.

Filip vs Zhang was hard fight for Filip but end of the day he won it. He throw and land more punches (outlanded Zhang in 9 of 12 rounds).
Also knockdown from 1 round should not be counted. It was illegal punch with forearm in back of the head. He more push him down.

Filip win after hard fight. And me to when watching this on TV noticed that commentary and even punches replay all was for Zhang. They forced opinion that Hrgovic body language is very bad.
Bull ****.

 

I think knockdown was 100% legit and he got hurt badly in two different rounds plus rocked numerous times as well.

But, at the same time, I think Hrgovic won 7 rounds to 5 Zhang's abd deservedly won the fight.

He also has proven his chin is made of steel. I think there are very few fighters in boxing history that would be able to withstand the punches that Zhang landed on him.

 

He dominated his opponent in terms of tecqniuqe, and didnt get hit by heavy shots, won at least 11 out of 12 rounds, end ended up k.o. undefeated soutphaw. McKean didnt box, he was wrestling and judge did nothing to break it up, it is unatractive boxing but Hrgovic didnt look bad.

 

DAZN were basicaly - Hrgovic landing 20 blows on Zhang - talking about somethig irelevant, and when Zhang woke up once per round and threw really attractive combination - DAZN be like WHUWAHUWAHWUAHWUHW, then Hrgovic does the same - DAZN: talks about Zhangs past fights.

What really got to me was 12th round - Zhang turns his back to Hrgovic and starts running away from him - DAZN comentators say nothing. Fight ends, Zhang barely breathing, DAZN: Hrgovic teammates need to carry him (while Hrgovic literally walked calmy to his corner). LoL.

Anyways, he is eastern european - he is not only unatractive to WBC/IBF/WBO/WBA, but to entire American market who want to se American champion, British market who want their champion - and those 2 in heavyweight make up 90% of total boxing market. It is in interest of boxing that Hrgovic is sabotaged, spit on and not given a chance at the title.

 

I had Zhang winning round 1 (10-8), 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9. 114-113 Zhang.

Very close obviously, would like to see a rematch. Probably won't happen though.

 

He didn't win, but still his performance has better value now.

 

TBH i did give Hrgovic a bit of stick at that time for this performance, mostly because he was rated pretty highly as the next big thing on here. And Zhang at that time had not done anything remarkable in his professional career at that time plus he was considered old and past it.

So in fairness to me without hindsight i do think my criticism was warranted at that time, looking back Hrgovic certainly looks more impressive considering what Zhang has done of late. Although i still wasn't impressed by Hrgovic when he fought McKean.

Knockdown was not 100% legit for sure. Somebody add this yesterday on forum (video of this). Go check it. It was 100 percent back of the head shot with forearm. Even if this shake Filip its should not be called a proper Knockdown. Special when u talk that somebody was robbed.

Nobody was robbed. Filip win more rounds soo he is the winner and 1 round should not be 10-8.

 

Hrgovic got bounced around the ring and looked pretty bad for a winner. But I'd still have to watch that fight again and score it round by round.

 

Hrgovic won that fight. Zhang was effective only in first 3 rounds. The rest belongs to Hrgovic.

Zhang got better, clearer moments in that fight and that's one of the reason ppl remeber this like Zhang victory. Because when Hrgovic land big 10 shots on Zhang but he take it without heart notice u still will be remeber more that one moment when Filip wobbled turned back for moment.

And one more. Filip got weird habit of turning sideways during a fight. Many ppl think he is hardly shaken then. But he do that again in last fight. Pretty dangerous habit. They should beat him with a stick on training when he do this. He clearly exposes himself to danger and make himself look worse if somebody dont know what's going on.
