Supposedly it was Lewis's wife who put a stop to the rematch with Vitali, or any further fights. I'm not really sure you can blame a man in his position at the time for not taking a fight when his wife threatens to leave him if he takes it.
Fair enough, but if you have the second Holyfield fight as Lewis's best win, then presumably the first should have been his best win?
Well he clearly shouldn't have go a draw in the first fight. So with that in mind, if Lewis got the nod in the first fight, that is basically his best win?
I don't have the second fight as his best win, but I definitely think the first fight was a better performance.
Errr Jack Who is "the Canadian"?? Lennox Claudius Lewis was born in Hampstead London England which automatically makes him a British subject His Mother emigrated to Canada later. She sent for Lennox when he was 12 years old & he moved to Canada. He boxed in Canada & represented Canada in the Olympics winning gold by beating Riddick Bowe in the final He moved back to London England to turn pro & was based there. Years later I heard some wise guy reporter ask Lennox " Who do you really represent Lennox, your parents were Jamaican, you were born in England, you represented Canada in the Olympics which Nationality are you" ??. Lennox looked at him grinned & said " Well being as I'm the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World I guess you could say I represent The Whole World!! Don't you think " ? That shut the wise guy up immediately What a great come back
Lennox did something very few could do He beat every man he ever faced in the pro ring !!!! In my opinion the best HW champ since Lennox own idol Muhammad Ali !!!!
This. Sixteen years had passed from when Mike Tyson had first won the heavyweight title in 1986 so I don't really rate that win.
Lewis only got dropped twice in his whole career. I think the talk of him having a glass jaw is overblown. He fought a lot of big punchers and didnt go down. Briggs, Tyson, Mercer all hit him and he didnt get dropped.
Agreed. Got stopped twice in a career and fought some huge punchers. Though arguably Akinwande scored a momentary flash knockdown against him, though it was not recognised as one.
People also forget Rahman had 41 stoppages in 50 wins the man could hit, and pretty much that Lewis's own doing. He offered his chin up on a platter backing up towards the ropes with his hands down offering Rahman a free shot.
Vitali Klitschko Evander Holyfield (should be two wins) David Tua Razor Ruddock Rahman 2 Honourable mentions: Ray Mercer, Andrew Golota, Tommy Morrison, Tony Tucker.
