Boxers with hard to explain power - a theory

    You know, when you see a guy like Tyson, ridiculously built and dynamic, you're not surprised by his power.

    But someone like GGG for example, he doesn't really look all that special but you can see that WTF in his opponents reactions, as they just can't that ****. I think Kovalev is similar in this respect, and he actually has killed a guy in the ring.

    Then you have these slenderman types, like Wilder or Julian Jackson who all but kill you with just a fast straight right.

    Where does that come from? It seems to me that it must be at least partly mental, not just about technique, fast twitch muscle fibers and all that.

    I think it has something to do with not caring whether you kill the guy or not, on a deep level. Like, the average person, knowingly or not doesn't really want to cause that much damage to another person so their bodies don't go into that mode. But some of them Russians, you know what I mean... Or Wilder, who actually said he wants a body on his record.

    Maybe if you're psychopatic or maybe also ignorant/intellectually limited enough to disregard consequences you just get disinhibited and go for the kill, like a dog, when he's angry.

    What do you think?

    I think your theory about these big punchers being psychopathic is totally off base. I have met Julian Jackson on several occasions. He is extremely religious, and, one of the nicest people I have ever met. A very gentle dude outside the ring. And, I have met many other big punchers who were also quite nice outside the ring. For most of these huge punchers, it is simply a physical gift. (Often enhanced with better technique)

    Fair enough. I still think there might be something to it, at least in some cases.

    I've always thought that it comes from his technique, admittedly, the way he uses his legs and launches his whole body into punches. Not sure about the mental aspect.

    But we have skinny legged brutal punchers like Hearns, Wilder or Arguello. Even Wlad had kind of skinny legs.

    Yeah. There's more to it. But i've noticed helps with some strong legs if you don't have the highly built upper body. Guess it helps w/ planting one's feet.

    Does Inoue seem like a psychopath? 88% stoppage ratio is very high especially in the lower weight classes he is fighting. His younger brother is a feather fist with the lowest stoppage ratio of all current belt holders

    As for why he is always looking for the KO?

    Q: When we think of you we think of knockouts, but is that how you prefer to win?

    Inoue: "Well yes - pro boxing wouldn't exist without the fans, and the fans want to see a knockout, so I want to give it to them."

    Gerald McClellan might be the kind of guy you have in mind considering his dog fighting history, he did say knocking out someone was like having sex for him & a good feeling lmao

    I didn't think Named had legs, he had tree trunks that made up 115 lbs of his 126 lb fighting weight

    Technique helps but “drop dead power” you’re born with, look at Foreman for an example, he had next to no technique and still knocked ppl dead. Wilder is another example of limited technique (and no legs) with drop dead power.

    Beterbiev's power always mystified me. He looks like he arm punches but opponents are obviously shook.
