The most shocked you have been by a fight or result?

Tyson/Douglas is the obvious one. I get that many think Tyson was underdone and perhaps he was but Buster Douglas fought an incredible fight that day and looked the winner after the first 3 rounds. It was an immense performance.

But the one that really shocked me was when Roy Jones Jr came to Australia and was ripped to pieces by Danny Green inside the first round. Danny Green was a very good fighter and Jones was past his best but nobody expected that.

 

They could fight three times and Lewis would stop Tyson in all three. The fight they had wasn't even competitive.

Tyson v Douglas. 17 with a hang over from a Saturday night on the pop ! When I finally got up my dad said your mate got beat !! Unbelievable

 

Probably already mentioned but Tyson chomping on ‘Vander’s ear a few times was pretty shocking.

Seems less shocking now with the passing of many years - and seeing Mike and Holy teaming up to sell “edible” ears was quite hilarious.

What happens in the ring stays in the ring I guess - except for a portion of ‘Vander’s ear which they did retrieve to sew back on I believe.

 

I don't dispute that, nor did I say different, however a peak Tyson without any 'stuff' going on doesn't lose to LL (or too many others for that matter)... LL is a Great hands down, however the Tyson we know & love and 'expected' does not lose.

Douglass deserves the accolades for a more skilful performance in his victory over said Tyson, though there too was an issue of 'a count' in the 6th I think it was.

anyway LL is Tops, but h2h, which is supposed to imply their absolute best, LL comes out second, again, as do many others.

don't let that 'other' Tyson cloud any realties of tier here, he is outside of the two (and many, many others), so he can get no pass by lifting some and lowering others.

he is No Match for TOP Tier Heavyweights, not S-HW, which is a whole other subpar discussion...

 

I disagree. Lewis would have beaten any version of Tyson including "peak" Tyson. Lewis was a bad matchup for Mike. Too strong, too long, readily able to fend off and discourage Mike's aggression. All great fighters have had guys with whom they didn't match up well. Marciano was lucky there wasn't a Lennox Lewis around in his day. I would've bet good money on Lewis if he'd had the chance to face a Marciano. The result would've been similar to that of Lewis-Tyson.

 

The supposed issue with the count on Douglas at the end of the 8th was laughable. All he did was respond to the referee. He beats that count no matter what. It may have started a second or two late but Douglas was ok.

Don King was the one who started the nonsense about that count. And he only did it to protect Tyson’s reputation. But the fact is that Tyson was going to lose that fight no matter what.

And I’ll add, I do not believe any version of Tyson beats Lennox Lewis at his best.
