The history of the sport? When has an Undisputed Champion in one weight class challenged an Undisputed Champion in another weight class? When has 8 world title belts been brought into the same ring for a title match before?
That's a fallacy. It's actually pretty disingenuous media hype. Canelo cannot win any of Charlo's belts.
I actually forgot this fight was on. I just assume at some point I'll wake up to news that Canelo wins by KO against a LMW opponent. Meh
Who said anything about Canelo winning Charlo's belts? It's Undisputed vs Undisputed. One Undisputed Champ vs another. That's not a fallacy or disingeunous. That's what's happening this weekend. You said "It's an interesting fight but hardly historical" then talked about needing to "read up on the history of the sport". The historical relevance of this match is quite clear. One Undisputed Champ vs another Undisputed Champ. No one's saying both Undisputeds are on the line. Having both Undisputeds be on the line in the same fight would take it to another level of historical significance. But this is still historically significant on its own, since it's never happened before in the 4-belt era.
Also some other history on the line this weekend is that Canelo is attempting to be the first boxer in history to successfully defend a 4-belt Undisputed Title for a 3rd time.
Imagine how damaging it will be to Clenelo's legacy if he loses? Jermello is coming up from 154, has never fought at 160 or 168, and he's been inactive for 16 months. It'll be a huge stain on his legacy and they might boot his ass right out the P4P top 10 altogether. Jermello isn't even ranked in the P4P top 10 himself. Granted he clearly lost the first Castano fight and should be 1-1 in his last 2 fights but Haney clearly lost to Loma too and they have him ranked #7 even though he's never fought anyone close to his size and all the champs he's beaten with exception of Kambosos who he was still much bigger than were either Shot inactive old men/leprechauns Blown up 126 pounders featherfisted leprechauns who are 1-3 at the weight but could easily be 0-4 Well past prime old blown up 126 pounders he weighed four divisions more than and he still needed a gift from his three home judges in his backyard to get by Beating fighters you're way bigger, heavier and longer than is not how P4P should work, even more so when all almost all the champs you've fought are old and shot or well past their prime They still have Spence ranked #6 for goodness sake How the hell does that work? How the hell was he ever top 5 in the first place? How is he still ranked top 10 now after his last fight? I get that Jermello lost to Harrison and should've lost to Castano and Vanes too, but I think he's done more than Spence has
And who seriously gives a f***? Canelo has taken the soft option and Charlo has taken the cash. Only idiots and the easily conned think this is some sort of historically significant event. It’s only 4 belts vs 4 belts because the WBA crapped itself when it should have given Charlo’s strap to Tszyu already and we live in a fragmented era and are at the mercy of the political elements of the sport. Charlo is not the undisputed champion, it’s an illusion. He abdicates his WBA crown the moment he enters the ring. But yeah, you do you man…buy into the suckjob media hype for all I care. This fight is no more than a footnote in the annals of boxing. Gobble gobble.
He abdicates the WBA crown? You sure about that Mr. Historian? It's actually the WBO crown smarty pants, shows how much you know. And that decision by the WBO doesn't stop Jermell from stepping into the ring as Undisputed Champion and competing for another Undisputed Championship which is history making. It's not a suckjob media hype or a footnote in the annals of boxing. This is history making and history aside, it's a spectacular matchup between two of the best in the sport. Lets not forget Canelo was a 154-lber for most of his career, he moved up 2 weight classes and now is Jermell. Your attitude sucks and your mindset is one of the main reasons why Boxing isn't thriving like it should. Shame on you.
A midget who's much taller than him, a midget who has a reach advantage over him? Taken the easy option? Risking all his titles aginst a proven, battle tested Undisputed Champion in the weight division he came up from? You're making no sense.
Pfft, If you’re Canelo do you want to fight Benavidez or a guy two divisions down who got smacked around by both Tony frigging Harrison and Brian Castano? Only an idiot can’t see that this is probably the lowest risk fight that Canelo could take.
tbis is prolly the more then likely scenario. & I think Mello has a chance at least he has the bigger frame. His inactivity & level of opposition is the sticking point for me.
