Ali only carried excess weight from the mid 70’s until his retirement in the early 80’s.

Up until then, he had a great physique.

The difference is, you look at a physique from an aesthetic perspective and not a functional one.

Ali never needed to be bulked up like someone like AJ.

There’s nothing wrong with picking Zhang over a washed Ali, but I still don’t think that he’d have brutally knocked him out.

 

It doesn’t matter if you think that Usyk is better technically.

The point is: Both guys beat bigger guys with their skills and their speed, and NOT due to their size and their power.

Chris Byrd also did the same.

Now if you look at Ali’s great attributes, it is absolutely nonsensical to claim that Ali wouldn’t have been capable of doing the things that Usyk and Byrd have done.

If your theory held up logically, there wouldn’t be any ifs or buts. No anomalies.

If your theory held up, a 45 year old fighter from his 70’s peak, wouldn’t have beaten able to have beaten ANY world class HW from the 90’s, no matter what.

The same happened to Larry Holmes.

Larry Holmes beat a very good HW in Ray Mercer, when he was in his early 40’s, in the 90’s.

That’s 2 HW’s from the 70’s, that beat 90’s HW’s whilst being in their 40’s.

If all modern fighters are superior, then why do we have whole divisions today that are inferior to what they were decades ago??

Regarding Moorer and Foreman’s size, they were similar in terms of height and reach, but Foreman was heavier.

No, Moorer would not have been a CW today.

He weighed anything from 220-250 pounds in the majority of his HW fights.

Until Ali slowed down in the 70’s, Haye was not faster than Ali. And when he was in his prime, there was simply no comparison whatsoever.
