This fight just validates that there should only be like three weight classes ...

    * Lightweight (whatever new limit you want to set that limit at) ...

    * Middleweight (whatever new limit you want to set that at - what's the average weight of the normal male these days?) ...

    * And heavyweight.

We don't need a champ every three or four pounds below 200. We don't have a champ every three or four pounds ABOVE 200.

EVERYONE in the lower weight classes is a weight bully. They all walk around heavier, often a lot heavier. They all dry out and rehydrate.

    Small ... Medium ... Large.

These guys are MEDIUM size boxers. Hope it's a good one.

Light Heavyweight has it's place in the sport. Middleweight to Heavyweight is a giant jump it needs to stay not to mention it's long history.

Just 3 weightclasses isn't enough to accommodate everyone even with weight flexibility

Just demonstrates why today’s regulations render the term “weightclasses matter” practically pointless. But fan’s still hold onto that old term.

Weightclasses mattered, when guys weighed at the weight class they fought in (or there abouts), and fought just about every month. Meaning that suddenly, a 160lb’er could be fighting a light-heavyweight a month removed from his last fight at 160lbs, and unsurprisingly, the middleweight comes in weighing as a middleweight and the light-heavyweight as a light-heavyweight.

Not the case nowadays. I remember a story by Kenny Porter about fighting at 154 and guys coming in at 175lbs. Thus he needed to get Shawn down to 147.

Charlo is taller, but his frame is smaller than Canelo.

Canelo looking really dried out around his jaw line and neck. Keeping his bones hidden by the baggy clothes.

He's going to swell up before the bell rings.

All the tiniest guys walk around at like 130. All the middle-size guys (like these two) walk around from 170 to 180.

Schedule the weigh ins an hour before the card begins.

Truthfully, really all that's required is:
You need a division for everyone 130 pounds and lower. (Lightweight)
You need a division for everyone 180 pounds and lower. (Middleweight)
And everyone and everything above is a Heavyweight.

The current cruiserweights are all really heavyweights anyway. (Hell, some current super middleweights and light heavyweights are really heavyweights.)

We'd get better fights against better quality fighters if there were fewer divisions.

Upcoming fights like Davis-Thurman, Canelo-Charlo and the recent Porter-Spence ... now Porter wants Canelo ... they should all be in the same division, really.

They're all roughly the same general size when they aren't drying out to make some arbitrary number they aren't going to fight at anyway.

If you're good, you should be able to fight people who actually outweigh you by 10, 15 or 20 pounds. Heavyweights are often matched with guys who weigh much more. It's a fistfight, after all. Not a tug-of-war.

They don't need to hand out belts every three to four pounds.

Jermell is most assuredly not a weight bully. I'm sick of saying this, in a sport where every single fighter (other than the two most notable of this past era) walks around 2-3 divisions above the weight that they fight at, no one is a weight bully. Every single fighter..............let me again stress, every single fighter cuts an extreme amount of weight save for a few gym rats.

Put this weight bully **** to bed (as long as they aren't taking questionable shortcuts)

Personally IMO there should only be 8 weightclasses:

    201 and above
    178
    165
    152
    141
    132
    125
    119 and under

The pro ranks are far too muddied................this is one thing I think the amateurs has right (the only thing pretty much)

I'll leave the belt topic for another day though

I’ll be rooting for Canelo in this one. Two unlikeable guys, I have to go with the one who isn’t a punk. Charlo is a punk like his brother. He’s in for a rude awakening in this one.

There should be less weight classes.
    Flyweight
    Bantamweight
    Featherweight
    Lightweight
    Welterweight
    Middleweight
    Light heavyweight
    Heavyweight

1 belt per division. Same day weigh ins with several weigh ins leading up to the fight. It increases the talentpool by a big margin, makes the belt worth something again and we cut out weight bullying.

A lot of **** was good the way that it was when boxing was still one of the top sports of the world. They ruined it by greed and incompetence.

It's as if most of these posters are completely new to the sport. This is how it's been fore decades. And the worst who think their walk around weight is what they should fight at. This board sometimes...

Yeah that’s just not true..at all. Like what? Not everyone rehydrates the same amount ..what a load of bullocks.

Some rehydrate 5-10lbs whereas others rehydrate 20-30lbs

Lance, you are in denial thinking weight bullies don’t exist. They do, and they fight at the lower weights for one reason : it gives them a competitive edge. Hence, why would they be fighting at a lower weight in the first place
