Could Mercer's pressure cause some problems for Usyk over a 12 rounder?

Of course it could. Did you watch his fights with Lewis and Evander ?
Usyk does not impress me in the least. He beat a good boxer in Joshua, where he was the underdog only because Joshua is super hyped and british, I get it, but hey he beat Chisora like everybody else and a really bad fighter in Dubois....

I think Wilder would knock out Usyk btw.

Mercer losing to ancient Holmes would not be a threat to Usyk IMO. The fact that he peaked in the fight with Lewis and still lost says something other than that Lewis was a great champion. However, Mercer is not a HW champion caliber boxer. Neither are Charles Martin, Bruce Seldon, Bermane Stiverne... and many others (lest I be misconstrued for mentioning "HW championship caliber").

Until Usyk beats Fury he isn't the HW champion either.

I heard that they have a deal for a fight in DEcember (Fury and Usyk). We will see how good Usyk is.

Holmes fought primarily on the ropes vs Mercer that's not a strategy that Usyk would use.

I could see Usyk befuddling Mercer with his movement and angles, but a motivated Mercer would push him hard. Unlike Joshua he wouldn't be tentative and would be willing to walkthrough anything Usyk threw who isn't a big puncher.

    A bold statement.
So you recognize the lineal belt?

Holmes was just an example. I could take as an example Jesse Ferguson (who before the fight with Mercer had 9 losses, and beat Mercer). Jesse Ferguson is certainly not ATG material, and he outpointed Mercer, as Usyk would have done.

Mercer went through a rough patch in his career he also had a close fight vs Marion Wilson.

That's certainly not the same version of Mercer who pushed Lewis all the way is it ?

He was green then. The experienced, focused Mercer who fought Lewis isn't an easy fight for anyone.

Against Lewis, Mercer was at his peak. Only such a Mercer would have any chance against Usyk, and even such a Mercer would lose on points.
What I really think is that you're unhappy that Usyk didn't lose by knockout to Dubois, but that's a completely different topic.

He was willing to walk through anything Lewis threw. He'd definitely not have the slightest hesitation to get hit by Usyk.

What ? You're comparing Mercer who fought Holmes who has no stylistic resemblance to Usyk, Holmes fought primarily on the ropes against an inexperienced Mercer.

You're also comparing the worst versions of Mercer vs Ferguson, Wilson.

What in the world has my opinion on whether or not Dubois landed a legit abdomen shot on Usyk got anything to do with this thread ?

Do we not match up the best versions of each fighter in hypothetical match ups ? So clearly the Mercer who almost beat Lewis would be the version who fought Usyk.

I also already stated Usyk would win on points, but I believe the Mercer who fought Lewis would've push him hard. So I'm not sure where you're getting that I am biased in any way shape of form regarding this topic.

Then we agree. Even Mercer (Lewis fight) Usyk would win on points. I'm not saying it would be easy for Usyk. Mercer's peak is familiar to us, but Usyk's peak may not have been seen yet (who knows, maybe we have).

Mercer had some pretty pathetic losses thrown in with some chilling wins, he could be boxed and maneuvered and Usyk at those high weights is excellent at that. And Usyk is not gonna stand in front of him.............I'd give an edge to Usyk here.

Usyk gives him a thorough drubbing. A come-forward plodder like Mercer is going to be ground down by Usyk who will not stand around waiting for Mercer to load up his shots and land them. Watch the Damiani fight - and Damiani is not nearly the boxer Usyk is. Damiani boxed his ears off and so would Usyk.
