That's the big question really, could he beat Canelo. Personally I see him beating Alvarez. It would be perhaps his hardest fight at the weight but I think he gets a decision win. Calzaghe s speed and volume of punches are the key, he has the chin to take the Mexicans hardest shots. The more I think about it, perhaps it's close enough for a split decision. Enough anyway for the Welsh man to rule the division.
I think that he might well prove to be wrong for Canelo, but as others have said, a lot hangs on that.
True. And 168 isn’t really Alvarez’s best weight. He seems to be slowing down too. A young Calzaghe might be the right opponent to take advantage of that.
I'd favour a prime Calzaghe over everyone at 168lbs right now, including Canelo. I'd make him underdog at LHW vs Bivol & a prime Beterbiev. I'm unsure on the current Beterbiev, he's bound to have slipped, I just don't know how far.
The Calzaghe that beat M Kessler (and he was a bit post prime) would run up the score. Nobody currently at SMW is beating him. I didn't really appreciate prime Calzaghe but moderately respected post prime Calzaghe, after going back and looking at most of his fights, yea no one in the division currently beating him.
