He wanted an easy fight that would make some cash. To be fair to Froch, if anyone deserved it, it was him.

Same reason Calzaghe fought Roy Jones. Favourite in the fight and a good payday after he thought he could promote himself for the last two fights and keep a bit more.

Yes he did want an easy touch in the US because he didn’t going to get schooled by Ward again. Chavez career was already in free fall at that time missing weight and substance abuse. Chavez Snr must have been so embarrassed.

He got his £6 million cash out against Groves anyway.

I seem to remember it was Hearn that was bringing Chavez up for Froch and was the driving force behind him as an opponent.

Hopkins had shown an interest in boxing Froch in Vegas and Hearn shut that one down immediately.

I'm not sure about that, mate. Fury has fought two top fighters of his era. Froch fought pretty much all the top guys in his division in his era. He may have come up short against Ward, but I have far more respect for Froch's career than I do Fury's, and most other boxers, to be fair. Froch regularly fought the best and he fought often by today's standards. He avenged his defeat to Kessler and had an immediate rematch with Groves after his controversial win.

If more boxers had Froch's mentality, the sport would be in a far healthier state.

Floyd had just fought Maidana during Cinco Di Mayo, which was huge, even the press for it was huge, Chavez was a relatively known name but also a Mexican so it would have been a big money fight if the fought on Mexican Independence Day.

Big money and a chance to headline in vegas.

Money is the simple answer. It’s a bit like someone in the UK calling out Conor Benn. But JCC on a different level payday wise
