Canelo weighed 165 when the bell rang. Mayweather weighed 149 ... possibly 150 when the bell rang. The "catchweight" discussion is ridiculous.

Canelo was on an eight-year, 43-fight unbeaten streak.
He was the World champion at Junior Middleweight.
He was making his seventh title defense.
And he had a 15-pound weight advantage over a 36-year-old veteran welterweight moving up (who could barely break 150 on fight night).

You could count the great 36-year-old welterweights who moved up a division and were successful on one hand.

The hoops people jump through to make excuses for Canelo losing is ridiculous.

And he isn't a helluva lot better puncher since moving up. He goes the distance all the time. John Ryder went the distance with him. Charlo just moved up two divisions and went the distance with him.

Did Canelo need to have the age advantage, the weight advantage, the division advantage, the reigning champ advantage AND the experience advantage for it to be FAIR?

    Christ. :duh

Firstly I’m a Floyd fan and I wasn’t making excuses for Canelo. All I was saying was he was too green for a fight of that magnitude against a fighter of Floyd’s caliber.

Floyd didn't fight the best Canelo, but.....

Erislanday Lara >>>>> Jermell Charlo and I suggest that Canelo hasn't improved as much as you seem to believe he has.

I can't wait until Benavidez slaps him across the face and we have to read how Canelo was too old, or wasn't really a true 168. LOL

It's an excuse used by haters to try and discredit the win period. No one called teo green when he fought loma, and he was younger than canelo with way less fights when canelo fought pbf. Excuse makers with agendas that's all it is and none of these haters can refute this post.

Was Pacquiao at age 23 green? What about Danny Jacobs? How about Duran? Almost no ATG is maxed out at 23.

It's ironic how a certain fanbase discredits Floyd win over canelo for catchweight, despite him being 36

If we are being fair, then manny beaten Cotto, Margarito and the zombie version of Oscar should immediately be wiped from the record books

Just spiteful hate. Ray Leonard said it was amazing that a 36 year old Floyd could still do that to a younger, stronger champion

Regardless whether it was prime Canelo or not, that was a masterclass and Floyd was no longer in his prime

No fighter who's the unified champ and ranked in the top 10 p4p with 40 fights is green. Did people say Haney was green? What about teo?? What about pbf?

And almost no fighter in a lower weight division is close to prime at 36. How did Ray Leonard look at a similar age??

You are giving a non answer and asking another question. Almost no ATG maxes out at 23. It doesn't happen and if it does happen it's usually wasted potential.

Duran made MASSIVE improvements after 23. So that's just wrong. That assertion is not correct. Have you seen the first DeJesus fight? He's many levels above that in his later fights.

He wasn't maxed out, but he had many miles under his belt and was already fighting pro as a teen

He wasn't some goofy stringbean that just turned pro aged 20. He was a very seasoned competitor with many fights under his belt

Also my point stands. Floyd was already old in boxing terms, much lighter and has chronic hand issues

Duran wasn't green at 23 either. He was already worldclass at that age

Again correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Duran also become pro aged 15 or so like Canelo?

These guys were extremely seasoned at age 23

I'm a huge football (soccer) fan and there are numerous examples of players that started young hitting their peak in their early to mid 20s. They just hold that level,or become a little more experienced over the years

Lionel messi was only 23 or 24 in 2011 and many were already calling him the goat

Boxing is a far more physical sport than soccer. Also, many boxers take a very long time to master the technical parts of the sport. Manny Pacquiao turned pro at 16, but did not have sharp fundamentals until he was almost 30. Michael Jordan started playing basketball as a kid, but did not master basketball until his late 20s. Some athletes take a long time to master their craft.
