The guy who has IPTV says he "got it off a guy on the internet" but I would be using a throwaway credit card if I was him. The streams are clearly coming through Russia, they used to get shut down routinely before Feb 2023 embargoes - funny how the internet helps to avoid sanctions!
I suspect one of the reasons that Matchroom have sunk so much of their own capital/reputation into Benn is related to their struggles to cut through to the potential audience without access to Sky's internal resources/audience and to its network of wider media contacts. To an extent they may have welcomed the controversy simply as it would keep their fighter/spokesman on the back and sometimes front pages, with the hope being they could then convert some of that audience into customers. Same goes for their dalliance with Youtube Boxing. They'll do anything it seems to get to the numbers needed to turn a streaming business into a success. They presumably costed the loss of customers like myself into their strategy.
Very serious. It's basically 'we know this headliner & card is crap so we'll just throw Next Gen in front of it to try and justify it'.
So they cannot buy the Box Office without paying a subscription? If so the figures will be down as the cohort of Cartoon Boxing were fuming when they got fleeced two months sub on a previous Box Office night. Genuine boxing fans still raging when the Benn v Eubank Box Office was hit by eggs and Box Office refunded but not the unwanted subscription.
I assume by this you mean DAZN rather than Matchroom here; the figures themselves don't matter that much to Matchroom as they're savvy enough to get another TV deal if they needed one. But it comes to the same point on Benn; I guess Matchroom wouldn't be that fussed for a site fee for a Benn-Eubank fight if it didn't come with guaranteed DAZN TV rights.
No intention to. But worldwide now over 17m subs and UK is the 3rd/4th most subscribed nation for what it’s worth.
I have also heard that DAZN UK is doing quite well. AJ's fight against Franklin back in april was a "game changer" for DAZN UK.
Smith had a massive say on the boxing output on Sky. When Matchroom we’re with Sky they were left to bring fights and output they could make. Sky did not increase rights fees to follow the trajectory of purses and instead diverted to PPV when it went above a certain figure. Sky considered leaving boxing besides PPV when Matchroom left. They took a punt on boxxer after Smith met Shalom. Smith was very hands on guiding Ben and was the person that insisted John Wischhusen came on board to guide Ben as Adam focused on the tv side. Smith also convinced his bosses to increase the rights fees to create a stable and invest long term. Something they wouldn’t do under Matchroom. Since smith is away from Sky it has left a few at the top of Sky to consider moving back to their PPV only model post boxxers deal or lowering the money they put up. I think this is partly why Wischhusen is also matchmaking more and more and Al siesta is having to be assisted. This is something I think Matchroom know and having Sky off boxing puts them massively in a driving seat going forward. Shalom by all accounts has upset a lot of people even those he’s only met once or twice due to his dealings. Only have to look how much BJS got pissed off at him so quickly. I also know for a fact the convo they had with Benns team to make Benn vs Eubank definitely happened but was done verbally and through an intermediary but it was clear where the message was coming from. He’s in a tough spot at the minute as he’s given Buatsi and Okolie etc big offers and is now struggling to make them work as they don’t sell the way he thought.
